From the Courier-Journal this morning: Central coach Bibby to return to sideline Thursday | USA Today High School Sports | USA Today High School Sports

I still find myself in disbelief when I read this paragraph:

 

“I was standing there with his ticket, and they made him walk all the way around the gym in the cold when our locker room was right next to where we were standing,” Bibby told The Courier-Journal on Saturday. “Then officer comes over and tells me I should move on and then grabs me. I said, ‘Why are you grabbing me?’ Then he shoved me against the concession stand. I moved my shoulder around, and he says, ‘You just shoved an officer.’ He says he’s arresting me and takes me out to the (police) car.”

Bibby said he has hired a lawyer, Michael Goodwin, in response to the treatment he received from the police officer. He would not comment further, except to say, “We have video evidence.”

 

“The bottom line and the most important thing is that I’m on the sideline coaching and mentoring these young men,” Bibby said. “That means everything to me and is what I’m passionate about.

 

“I was surprised to read statements on Saturday by individuals who were not present at the time and never asked my version of the events Saturday morning. I hope those initial statements made by individuals not present don’t unfairly compromise the opinions of people who read them. I’m just happy to move past this so I can continue the great year I’m having with my guys at Central.”

Why would he get an attorney and threaten legal action if he forearmed the cop? I'm not saying he did or didn't...I'm just trying to make sense of it

Why wouldn't he? He thinks he did nothing wrong. Society today doesn't hold anyone accountable for their actions. You have to be nice and bend over backwards with the public nowadays. Every time someone gets arrested its over zealous cops. For the record I'm a coach Bibby fan. I think he is one of the best in the state. No coach out works him on the sidelines. His kids play hard every night. However, from what I was told from LIT people he escalated this and was given every opportunity to stop it. I hope he is cleared and if he was in the right then disciplinary action needs to take place.

From the article, he is cleared. He wouldn't have so soon if video evidence proved otherwise IMO. It's hard to make a judgement if you didn't witness what actually took place. I'm sure when they looked at the cameras, they wouldn't have cleared him this soon if he actually did escalate this.

Exactly my thoughts.....Of course the LIT people said that, their policy is the one that started the whole ordeal. I wasn't there, I don't know what happened. I know every witness has their own point of view, and so does the security guard, police office, player, and coach. The video is neutral and speaks the truth. I wonder if any of us will ever get to see it.

There should have never been a issue at the gate. Sometimes processes are more complicated that they really need to be. I've been to many big AAU tournaments and there was never a issue with players & coaches at the gate. Sad things except for the police & player, everyone works for the same entity.

Agreed process should be changed but it's not going to change on Saturday morning day 3 of the tournament. It's for ADs to take up during monthly meeting. Most don't want to be on the committee cause they have to work extra even though the coaches complain constantly. There could have been some humanism from the worker, but they were doing what they were told. It's hard to be nice working the gate. I've done it many times. Coaches say they are coaches and don't have passes. Do you let them in or argue? As for AAU tournaments the ones that I have participated in and are run right(NCAA certified) players and coaches check in and enter in a different entrance than the public. AAU events that are unorganized lose money.

Teams shouldn't be forced to play in the LIT then. I wonder how many teams would voluntarily compete in this event if they weren't forced into it by JCPS?

Not all teams would play but the better ones would. They get a lot of money back. The final game is split between the two teams. Sell a thousand tickets and after expenses teams will get about $3k each. Plus it is prestigious to be the LIT champ. Lots of history. Just need to get together to run it right. ADs need to demand this

If he forearmed the officer why wasn't he arrested? That's assault and should never have been overlooked. Sorry but that just doesn't pass the smell test.
