Belfry 33 Burch, WV 1

Featured Replies

If they were advancing 1 base at a time, I dont have a problem with the score. Now if they were stealing bases and taking extra bases, I think it is a shame. I know Coach Lawson only will let a guy get a single out of a triple when they are up 10 runs. You gotta respect that. It is also respect for the other players and coaches.

I know of coaches that will employ this same strategy and unless the kid hits the ball over the head of the outfielders, it is a single. Very classy move. This game may have been much worse had the strategy not been employed.

I attended this game. At least 6 of Belfry's best players did not play in the game. By the 3rd inning, everyone else on the bench was in the game, including 8th graders. There was no stealing after the 2nd inning, even on a wild pitch. Burch's coach could have chosen Belfry's lineup and the score wouldn't have been much different. The game went 5 innings because this is required for a game. The game was at Belfry, so Belfry did not bat in the bottom of the fifth. No one wants to beat a team this badly, however, short of intentionally making outs, there was nothing that could be done. Although Burch tried, the talent they had is the worst I have ever seen on a high school team.

I'm sure they were bad, but 33 runs...Come on Watusi you know that's awful...No excuse at all for that...

I agree it is awful, yet from all first hand accounts, unavoidable.

I'm not trying to excuse it because I don't think they did anything that needs an excuse.

No, but I give up...I'm sorry for thinking that 33 runs in 5 Innings is a shame...Teams do it all the time, right?

South Carolina beat UF by a 21-3 margin the other day.

Suggestion - drop Burch from the schedule next year.

But don't blame a team for running up the score when by all accounts Belfry did what it could to keep it from getting even more out of hand.

I saw a kid hit one 380 last year in South Carolina and the kid got a single with the bases loaded. So I think all hits inside the park should be singles.

College is different. Players are expected to compete and Florida is nationally ranked. Not saying that Belfry should have kept the score down... somethings you just cannot help.

I was there and I will agree some of the bad Feds Creek teams could have mercied this team. Coach Hagey even asked their coach to call the game but he wouldnt.

By the way their coach is Hoffman which is explanation enuff to why they are bad. The guy is a joke, he is the one that caused an uproar at Tug Valley Wv because of how bad of a football coach he was. He even told the football players to turn and run if the player was bigger and he wanted to run a 5-5 defense lol.

Now I say how can you avoid running up the score when you play 8th graders swing at wild pitches and stop everyone one base at a time?

Belfry plays at Mboro next week (not sure which day, I've heard both Wednesday & Monday), and we'll get a better idea of how the Pirates rate this season.

Where is that game, MT5?

Its Monday. Well its 12 am so it is today. Yeah Belfry has a tuff game on their hand. Belfry is good though but they are still young. Aaron Chapman is really tuff to beat though and Christ West is pitching well also. So who knows. By the end of the year though this Belfry team will be hard to beat.
