  2. It appears to me that, with a few exceptions, Pikeville's best players are their younger players. Pikeville will probably take some losses for the next couple of years, but should be a powerhouse again after that. I can't comment on the coaching, however, I do know that several of the parents/fans are not pleased with the coaching.
  3. However this is very important because if the #2 seed out of Region 8 were to beat the #1 seed in the second round of the playoffs, then the winner of that game would have to travel to the Region 7 #1 seed which would likely be either Breathitt Co. or Middlesboro, assuming the #1 seed wins the rematch of these 2 teams in the second round of the playoffs. It appears to me that unless something very unusual happens, Belfry will be the 1, SC the 2 and Prestonsburg the 3 seed. Belfry will host SV in the first round and SC will host Prestonsburg. Assuming Belfry and SC win in the first round, Belfry will host SC in the second round. If Belfry wins, Belfry will host the following week's game(Regional Championship). If SC wins, SC will most likely have to travel to either Breathitt or Middlesboro if the team alive from this region(Region 7) is the #1 seed. In the semi-state game, whichever of these 4 teams advances that far will host, even if they are a #2 or lower seed. Am I reading the rules correctly?
  4. This was a great game that went 9 innings. Chris West pitched for Belfry. This was probably the best game he has pitched in his highschool career. Belfry squeezed in a run in either the 4th or 5th inning. Paintsville led off the bottom of the seventh with 2 consecutive doubles to tie the score. The Paintsville runner on second advanced to third on a balk with no one out, but was left stranded. Neither team scored in the 8th. In the 9th with the bases loaded and 2 outs, Boomer Edwards singled in a run to make it 2 to 1, and then Tyler Dotson sealed the deal with a grand slam homerun, to go along with a double and 2 singles on the day for Tyler. Chris West pitched 8 1/3 innings with Colton Copley getting the last 2 outs for the save. The Pirates also played well defensively. I am sure this will give the Pirates a big boost of confidence going into the District and hopefully the Region.
  5. Could someone explain how a team qualifies for the all "A" tournament? I know that both Sheldon Clark and Shelby Valley are 2A in football, yet they are able to play in the all "A" tournament in basketball and baseball. It was just a few years ago that Sheldon Clark competed in 3A.
  6. I attended this game. At least 6 of Belfry's best players did not play in the game. By the 3rd inning, everyone else on the bench was in the game, including 8th graders. There was no stealing after the 2nd inning, even on a wild pitch. Burch's coach could have chosen Belfry's lineup and the score wouldn't have been much different. The game went 5 innings because this is required for a game. The game was at Belfry, so Belfry did not bat in the bottom of the fifth. No one wants to beat a team this badly, however, short of intentionally making outs, there was nothing that could be done. Although Burch tried, the talent they had is the worst I have ever seen on a high school team.
  7. I agree totally with Dillon Stiltner from Phelps. He actually played and competed as a 7th grader. Robert T. Runyon, a freshman from Belfry will be an outstanding player if he is able to totally recover from his accident last summer. He was on the varsity team last year. I have been told he is actually the only 8th grader to ever record a win in a varsity game for Belfry. There should be a lot of young talent in the 15th region this year.
  8. I think everyone that comes to Belfry this year will be surprised at what a nice field Belfry has. The infield has been sodded and the baselines have a mixture of clay and diamond pro field conditioner. There was also a warning track installed around the entire field and the bleachers were recently covered. Thank goodness no more Hardy Park!
