I agree! However, sports and recruiting has changed a lot since he coached high school. In those days, sports hardly ever overlapped and recruiters actually came to high school games to recruit. Unfortunately, nowadays, that doesn't happen. If you don't get out and get your own exposure, you don't get many looks unless you are elite. Coaches these days understand what they are up against and either have a no tolerance policy about it or are flexible and coach around it. I'm happy we have a flexible coach.

 

Like I said except for football it has changed immensely since my days. Good luck this season. Enjoy it

I don't think you stirred up a hornets nest just brought up an interesting topic to debate! I'm 37 and I never had to worry about missing games due to vacationing because those things just weren't in the cards for my family but I can't imagine anything keeping me from playing even if it meant I stayed back to play! That's just me

You know I'm right there with ya...but things have changed! Everyone is softer on Johnny and Susie these days. Drives me crazy! But understand why coaches do it...it's "expected" these days.

I'm just thinking back to my senior year for baseball........I was late 3 minutes for practice, Brother John made me run for about 25 minutes straight without stopping and then told me (paraphrasing), "next time you're late will be the last time you play for NewCath". Can just imagine what he would say if I told him I was missing a game. :scared:
