Sturgill Simpson

Featured Replies

If you like outlaw country like what Waylon and others did back in the early '70s, this is your guy. Go buy "Metamodern Sounds In Country Music" right away.

Probably the best album of the year, regardless of genre. The only thing that would make it cooler is if there was a story behind it the way that "HonkyTonk Heroes" by Waylon had, where Billy Joe Shaver threatened to beat Waylon up if he didn't record his songs, as Waylon kept putting him off. Waylon finally relented, and the greatest record in country music history was born. Sturgill Simpson's record is on-par with "HonkyTonk Heroes," and it's difficult for me to admit this.

Bonus: Simpson is from Jackson, KY (Breathitt Co.) and graduated from Woodford Co. HS. His mother's family were coal miners. He gets his hillbilly the honest way, and it's good.

That sounds like something my sister would love!

If you don't immediately dig this song, I can't help you. Go back to The Eagles, because there's no hope for you.

Sold! Thanks for the link!

I am a HUGE Waylon fan, Waylon is basically all I have listened to for the past year or two...well, sometimes I throw in some Mike Farris.

Jim....thank you again for the heads up! I looked around on the web and listened to a couple more songs, the more I hear the more I like!

Did you ever get to see the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies in concert?

No, found Farris too late, unfortunately.

Great recommendation!!! I am listening to the whole album on RDIO.com. Excellent

Man, they put on a great show. Farris is a very charismatic frontman in the Chris Robinson (Black Crowes) style.

I think I am going to go see Simpson at the Madison Theater in Covington on January 30th.

Bought both of his albums and they are getting better every time I listen!

FYI....he has a show on Friday, January 30th in Louisville and Saturday, January 31st in Covington. I'm planning on trying to make one of them, but as of yet, I'm not sure which.

Yes! Everyone needs to listen to Sturgill Simpson. By far the best thing to happen to country music in decades. He is about the only "real" country out there these days. Everything else is just that trailer park pop garbage.

Not to threadjack; my favorite Waylon song (and I don't like much country). Vocal similarities for sure.

I'm gonna try and hit one of those as well. Probably will have to be the CVG one.
