December 2, 201411 yr I'm thinking about getting a new shotgun sometime early next year. Looking to get an auto loader. Mainly for turkey but would be the occasional dove hunt. Any suggestions. Some I've started looking at: Mossberg 930 or 935 - for the lower end price wise Remington 11/87 or versa max Winchester Super X3 For upper end price wise and most likley not an option Benelli SBEII Any others I should be considering?
December 2, 201411 yr For your money, it's tough to beat a Remington 11, in my mind. I'd look into Brownings, though. They're obviously known best for their double-barrels, but they make some really solid auto loaders as well...and most are a fair amount less than the Benelli SBEII.
December 2, 201411 yr I have, or had, every one on your list. I gave the 935 to my dad, he loves it, I liked it. I have 2 turkey guns, one 11-87 super mag and an 870 super mag with a thumbhole stock. If I was going to buy a multi-purpose gun right now without owning another gun, I'd get the Versa Max. I've had a Super Black Eagle, didn't like the breech.

The Versa Max is probably my favorite right now but on the upper end of what I want to spend.

My best friend has one and he duck hunts with his. It's light, and is just typical of every Rem on that pattern. I'm almost ashamed to say how many shotguns I currently have, and how many I've bought/sold/traded over the years. Gunbroker is the devil.:lol2:
December 2, 201411 yr Spin, sounds like you need to get a Kreegof or whatever those German shot guns are called that are beloved by serious shotgun shooters. I believe most of those cost more than my car is worth, not that my car is worth much, lol.

If you want to even think about buying one, you're right though...you'd better sell car. They start off around $7K for a standard over-under, and, well, the sky's the limit from there.

I'm not knowledgable enough with shotguns to know what makes a Krieghoff better than $2500 Benelli but I would love to shoot both to find out. I shoot my hand guns over at the Jefferson Co Sportman's Club and I know a few of those guys also shoot at the skeet/trap (I don't know the difference between skeet and trap shooting) shooting area and a few of them have Kreighoffs. I have thought about taking my grandfathers old Remington semi auto over there but it is a 16 gauge which was common when the gun was purchased but less so now so finding ammo is difficult and expensive.

I bought a Browning Belguim Sweet 16 from a patient whose husband had passed away, and she gave me about a dozen boxes of winchester ammo with it. I still have it in one of the safes. It's the only 16 I own and I happened to pick up a box at Dick's the other day and was shocked at how much a box of high brass #6 was going for.

Wish I hadn't traded it. Thinking of maybe buying another down the line. They are very very sweet.
December 3, 201411 yr I know you said it is most likely not an option, but if you decide to go with a gun in the same price range as the SBE II, I would strongly recommend considering the Beretta A400 Extreme. Just picked one up this summer, and so far it has been incredible. It has the ability to seamlessly transition from 3 1/2 inch steal shot to 2 3/4 dove loads. Admittedly, I haven't had it for very long, but so far it has preformed admirably. I'm now just looking forward to getting out to the duck blind to truly test it out.
December 3, 201411 yr Author Went by Gander Mountain today at lunch and looked at a few. Anyone had any experience with Stoeger? They had a camo pistol grip I really liked but just don't know much about the brand.

They had a camo pistol grip I really liked but just don't know much about the brand. They're a subsidiary of Benelli. Made in South America. The brand has always been pushed as a sort of a value-buy, buy more for less...but they have somewhat of a reputation for being plain cheap. I've never shot one, but I have a friend who bought their side-by-side Uplander, and he said that the gun would often give him fits when he would try to re-lock the breech...it wouldn't catch. The ejector rarely worked as well. He sold the gun for less than half the buying price within a couple of years.
