.... AGAIN.

Round 5

Central leads the series 4-0 with 3 of the past 4 being Instant Classic kind of games. Belfry, though, enters as the Defending 3A State Champions.

Both teams bring rosters laden with underclassman talent.

Central is playing great ball against stiff competition. Belfry has dominated an easier path but also are enjoying the spoils of being healthy.

Who wins and why?

To me it comes down to execution and defense. These two programs know each other and though the roster has changed in two years both Coaches know what to expect and what the other does that they have to adjust for.

Central has changed the Belfry program and pushed them to evolve. As a direct result of playing Central Belfry has changed the way they schedule in the regular season and how they utilize speed and quickness on defense.

What sticks with me entering this game is the team who wins will be the one who doesn't miss opportunities or take points off the board. In 2010 an over achieving Belfry team simply was outmatched..but the three other games these teams have been about as equal as two teams could be and those game were ultimately decided by miscues or big plays made:

2007- Belfry leading tries a last second heave at the end of the Half that is Intercepted and returned for a TD. Belfry trailing late is driving inside the redzone for the go ahead TD when they fumble and Central recovers.

2011- Belfry held a 14-9 lead and had kept the vaunted Central offense in check all game. Central though puts together a 4th Quarter drive. On 1st Down Central fumbles but gets on the ball. On 2nd and 15 the QB throws a perfect pass in the tightest window possible in the corner of the endzone.

2012- Central opens with a 1st Qtr TD but misses the XP. Belfry answers with a 2nd Qtr TD but also misses the XP. Both teams shut each other out in the 2nd Half. In OT Belfry has a walk-in TD if Sani Warren makes the option pitch but instead it hits the turf and Belfry faces 4th and Goal from the 12. Central holds then scores on their possession.

To me this is concerning for Belfry as they continue to be a team with a propensity to hurt themselves with self-inflicted wounds. In the win vs. Russell, Belfry had three botched PAT's due to high snaps. Though it didn't hurt them as much last night, Belfry also had three penalties negating big runs that occurred away from the play(including a 69 yard TD run). They also had a redzone opportunity hindered due to an untimely False Start.

My prediction is another Physical War decided by who makes the big play and who makes the big mistake.

Central is the King of 3A until proven otherwise:

Central 17

Belfry 13

I've been all about Belfry this year, but Central's recent history against them is giving me pause.

If it is past November 1st.

If the game is close in the 4th Quarter.

Central is the team most likely to win.

Coach Scroggins is on the short list of elite coaches in the State of Kentucky and rarely gets the credit he deserves.

Belfry's got something to prove...This team wants Central. There 100% healthy and ready to get over the hump. This team is going to shock some people...Belfry by a couple of T.D.'s

Back to back for the Pirates.

This may be the game of the weekend. Really looking forward to it. I'm not expecting many points, but I am expecting Belfry to get the win...17-13.

This matchup is turning into quite the rivalry. This should be a good one, seems like they always are between these two. Central won the last two in heart breaking fashion (if you are a Belfry fan) and they were two of the closes, and best games in recent finals history. These two coaches, two programs know each other very well and I'm sure they are coming into the game knowing what to expect. I'm really excited for another shot at Central.

My big toe tells me Belfry wins.
I'm not exactly sure why but that made me laugh out loud. :thumb:

If both teams play clean games Belfry wins.

If neither team plays a c lean game Central wins.

Right now I still see too many self inflicted wounds from Belfry. Too many costly and unnecessary penalties, Special Teams gaffes, and the pass defense I still don't have complete confidence in on deep passes.

See another great match-up..but think Central takes advantage of one too many mistakes:

Central 17

Belfry 13

Hoping I am wrong.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Wayne County dethroned Central last year in the Simi Finals and Belfry dethroned Wayne County in the championship. So as I see it in my completely unbiased opinion, Belfry is the King of 3A until proven otherwise:

Belfry 27

Central 14

I think ATLCat's point was he has to see Belfry actually beat Central before he's prepared to pick the Pirates. Have they cleared that hurdle?
