I think that this is what is confusing folks:

 

It was a very good game. Corbin got a little timid defensively, playing bend but don't break type defense and Central was able to nickel and dime it through the air down the field. They went 80 yards in the final 1:30 of the first half to score on the last play before halftime, this after Corbin had a long TD run called back on a holding call. The flag was thrown after he was 40 yds down the field and came from the opposite sideline(Central's side), saw the flag thrown and there could have been a hold, it was just very dubious timing. Central then scored after receiving the opening kickoff of the second half, after having the drive kept alive after an incompletion on 3rd down by a late hit penalty on Corbin. I have no idea what the backjudge(who seemed to always throw his flag at the most inopportune time) saw because the WR had the ball in his hands when the Corbin player made the hit, knocking the ball loose. The next to last play is foggy to me because it looked like the Corbin DB was going to intercept the pass when the Central player hits him and the ball looks like it is just falling to the ground when someone on the ground kicks it and it bounces to another Central player who is then tackled with the clock at 00. Corbin storms the field thinking they have won, then the official clears them off the field and there was an apparent penalty called. So now Central gets an untimed down and the Central player dives for a low throw, which may or may not have skipped off the ground for the game winning TD. The officials all looked around at each other before the back judge finally signaled TD.

 

The play was very foggy to me, but I never questioned it being a legal play. The only thing I was wrong on regarding the hail mary pass play was the player was falling to the ground when he kicked the ball into the air instead of being on the ground, which by the way was a very heady move by the Central WR. If he doesn't intentionally kick the ball to keep it alive, it's an incompletion.

They did have to set limits on out of district kids this year for the first time due to the being stretched to the limits on classroom space. They must be doing something right or the system wouldn't have experienced approximately 35% growth over the past few years.

The whole deleted angle on Hudl is really confusing me. It seems as though Central has control of the clip as it was posted on their account... why would they delete the clear facemask view? Furthermore would Central have 4 cameras at the game (seems very unlikely) or would they be sharing a Corbin camera?

 

Hopefully someone on here knows how Hudl works that can explain what may have caused the 4th view to be deleted.

The referees were unfortunately one part(at least in my opinion) of the equation for this game, but there were a couple of other larger factors that led to the outcome. Corbin was good enough on this night to overcome a lot of adversity, but sadly for this group of seniors, one lucky bounce, or kicked ball went the other way.

 

1. Central refused to quit. Corbin punched them in the mouth, but didn't deliver the knockout blow. They showed the heart of a champion and took advantage of their opportunities.

 

2. Corbin seemed to lose their aggressiveness on defense. I think the big lead led them to a "milk the clock" mentality and they sat back in a bend, but don't break defense, thinking that giving up big plays was probably the only way Central could catch up. Knowing that Central couldn't stop their ground game made this look like a sound decision at the time as well. A couple of personal foul calls on "big hits", that appeared totally clean to my "unbiased" eye may have caused them to be a little timid as well. A lot of Corbin fans have questioned this defensive philosophy, but I can understand why they did it. I would have loved to see a blitz on that last play, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Well said. If nothing else Corbin fans have to know that Haddix is the real deal. Looking forward to Bell and Corbin coming back to the East and see some awesome playoff game son the horizon. Belfry will be stacked the next three years and think Corbin and Bell will be right with them.

I would like to agree with you...and for as young as Belfry is they will continue to be very good the next few years... but Corbin will be a tough out for sure. Belfry's power the next few years is thanks to some crops of exceptional feeder talent coming up (three straight MS State Titles), but Corbin has been having similar if not equal success at the Middle School level as well.

 

That Region is going to be a lot of fun next year. Lawrence County will be a solid team as well with Kiser and Dalton returning.

They were all there, some just not on the sidelines. Coach Jewell was as mad as I have ever seen him after the game Friday.

 

Why do you think this? I think Coach Jewell was an excellent coach, but Bell Co. had the mojo on him, so my guess is that this game would have been played last week in Louisville.

This is the most talented Corbin team to come through in a while. More experience would have done more ; nothing Haddix did helped you beat Bell.
