FHS Notes: Frankfort defeated Bellevue 50-12 last week in the second round of the playoffs. This is the fifth straight year the Panthers have advanced to the regional final and once again the opponent is Beechwood. The two teams have faced each other seven times in the last eight years in the regional final. The Tigers are 6-1 in those games, but the Panthers won last year’s battle 35-21 and will look to make it two in a row. Jalen Washington scored four touchdowns against Bellevue and has 29 on the season for the Panthers. Anthony Robinson has thrown for 15 touchdowns and has scored seven.

Notes: Beechwood defeated Paris 51-0 in the second round last week to advance to the regional final. Since losing their first two games of the season, the Tigers have won 10 games in a row. Junior quarterback Kyle Fieger averages 154 passing yards per game and has thrown for 24 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Last week’s game against Paris was the first game all season Fieger did not have a touchdown pass. Junior Ethan Stringer had 179 rushing yards on 13 carries and scored four touchdowns against the Greyhounds. He has averaged 83 rushing yards per game and has rushed for 21 touchdowns, with at least two touchdowns in each of the last six games. Last week was senior running back Joe Studer’s first game back after missing four games because of a leg injury. He has averaged 67 rushing yards in eight games played and has scored 11 touchdowns (five rushing, six receiving). Senior tight end Jonathon Stokes has 12 touchdowns (five rushing, seven receiving).

Thats a good game report, and the three players mentioned are great, but the key to this game, and IMO why BW wins, is 59, 50, 79, 74, and 57. That's the big cats up front, and with the exception of Dixie that have been the best unit on the field in every game I've watched. They are huge and also very athletic, Brayden Combs is 59, and he is committed to play baseball at Kentucky. Magnificent nasty streak in him on the football field. 74, 50 and 57 will all be college linemen eventually. Combs is probably the best of them, and would be a D1 football recruit if he wanted to be. The key moment of this season was when the coaching staff convinced Stringer to trust them and go where they lead him, and it's been clicking since.

One thing that gives me hope for the Tigers is all the points that Frankfort gave up outside of the Class A games. Frankfort gave up 166 points to the Tigers 134. Both played 7 games. I think Frankfort only has one opponent left in playoffs (First Baptist, Fl), while Beechwood has 4 opponents eft (Mt. Healthy, Dixie, Cov Cath, Newcath).

This will be a tough battle. Frankfort has a very good team and they now know they can beat Beechwood because of last year. I agree that the game will be won at the line of scrimmage. That is a big area of improvement for Beechwood this year. I believe being on the turf at Beechwood will help the Tigers also. As long as Beechwood does not turn the ball over, I believe they will win by 2-3 TD's.

I'm taking Beechwood tonight in the victory that is my take on it.
