The Handshake vs. The Fist-Bump

Featured Replies

Let me take this in a different direction...what are the rules on hugs (especially guy to guy)? I belong to a Catholic Men's Group and we do some "bro" hugs on occasion.

All the straight guys in my family when giving a greeting hug at Christmas time at the family get together hug & pat each other on the back 3 times, and say "I'm (pat) not (pat) gay (pat)". while they're patting.

I thought that it was pretty funny and I didn't mind them doing it, and once while patting I said "I (pat) am (pat) gay (pat)" while patting 3 times.

All I got back was uncomfortable looks. They all know that I am and have known for 30 years, but somehow to turn the joke on them didn't lead to any laughter. They almost acted like they didn't know what the hell I was doing, or why I thought that it was funny. It's as if they weren't even aware of their own ritual, and them cracking up at themselves while they're doing it.

Uh oh... uncomfortable looks again. :ohbrother:

I shake hands and fist bump but shaking hands is nasty. I prefer a fist bump but I'm not going to be rude when offered a hand shake. I have seen too many people at work not wash their hands after dumping so I no longer trust anyone's hands and will take a shower after shaking hands.

I always try to watch a persons hand as I approach someone new to see if they are coming in with an open hand or a fist and I adjust accordingly. There's this driver at work that everytime I see him he greets me with the fist bump. Most generally I'm with Dawg and RP older persons or professional setting handshake but the kids like the fist bump. Like I said I always am checking before going in to be safe.

Hood shake with a finger snap at the end is my preference...

I'll keep that in mind next time I see you. You may get a snotty and not realize it, just for laughs. :D
