McCracken County football coach Jack Haskins Retires

Featured Replies

Confirmed: McCracken County football coach Jack Haskins is retiring from coaching, effective immediately.

Coached against him several times, had some wars, but the thing I can say that his teams were always prepared and he coached with tremendous passion for the game. Not only did winning mean a lot, but teaching young people how to be successful in football meant a lot. Today if you are passionate about the game and coaching young people then you sometimes are mis-understood. I learned more about coaching football by competing against great coaches like Coach Haskins, Both Coach Jaggers, Jimmy Reed, Sam Harp, Dudley Hilton, Ken Roarks, Ray Graham, Jerry Perry, Perry Thomas, Larry French, Chuck Smith and many others. One thing about that crew they all coached and still coach with passion for the game.

It'll be interesting to see who they choose as a replacement. The right hire and you could see McCracken turn into an elite program, but, a wrong hire could really kill the early success and momentum they have going right now. Any early names surfacing?

I know it would never happen, but I would love to see what Joe Morris could do at McCracken. I've heard a couple of names but it is purely speculation. There's no one on the current staff that would be a capable replacement so they'll have to go outside the the system.

Wasn't it kind of the thinking at the time for Haskins to coach a few years and then turn it over to the Hedges guy that was at Reidland? I may be way off thinking this, but it seems like that was the "plan" at the time. IMO this would be a job that would attract some big name coaches, even if they are currently at a quality job.

Hedges stopped coaching after last year. I highly doubt he would be a candidate.

As MCMustangs stated it would be interesting to see what Morris could do at McCracken. I think this job would generate some big names interested. The biggest name would be Morris but with him being AD and coach not sure if McCracken would match his salary, if he was interested?? I don't see Garrett hiring a coach without any head coaching experience. Do they have a quality coach on staff now that would be a possible candidate?

I think Rogers is a great coach but would he leave Tilghman after 1 year? Could this possibly be a landing spot to bring Lovelace back to the area?

Congrats Coach. Enjoy your retirement. You did a great job at every stop and you touched the lives of many young men. You have left your mark on High School football in KY, particularly West Ky. Despite your shortcomings, which we all have, and some morons on message boards love to point out you have had a great career and deserve to be celebrated in your retirement.

I'm not at all a Haskins fan at all but I do think that this is worth mentioning...Haskins is 15th overall on KY's all-time wins list...he got to 15th coaching at the following schools...

Heath

Calloway Co.

Lone Oak

Ballard Memorial

and McCracken Co.

The fact that the guy won 270+ games at those schools is nothing short of remarkable.

Lovelace would be a great coach at McCracken.
