The OHSAA ruled last week that Fairland was in violation of allowing a "prospective" student athlete to participate in Summer practices/drills in football and basketball. Later, the student was ruled ineligible and he went to WV and was ruled ineligible and eventually ended up in KY and ruled eligible. The OHSAA handed down the following fine; 1. $10,00 fine 2. 3 year post season ban for ALL sports (Boys & Girls) 3. No league participation. This just makes me wonder if this happened in KY, would the KHSAA have done anything or just smacked them on the wrist? I applaud the OHSAA and how they acted decisively and with authority. Any comments?

Depends on the circumstances of the case and I don't know enough about this one to give an opinion.

Wow! I feel bad for those kids in the other sports. I could see dismissing all coaches and school personnel and a small fine, or one or two post season ban for the sport he was participating with and a much larger fine.

I agree with this. Why should kids get punished? Axe the adults who should have known better.

I am reading my own opinion into this but I think the OHSAA is trying to send a message to all Ohio schools to keep a tighter reign on who/what is going on at their school or they will meet the Reaper.

I agree. The kids get punished at all levels of sports when the adults try and do things they know they shouldn't.

Sure, makes a lot of sense. Kid gets four years of high school and gets part of that oh so rare and valued time wiped out cause some adult screwed up.

This goes to show that the "out-of-state loophole" does exist within the KHSAA. I don't know of one player that enrolled in Kentucky from out-of-state that has been ruled ineligible, even when they had been ruled ineligible in another state.

More to the story here then you might imagine. The OHSAA does not tolerate having to deal with repeated issues from the same OHSAA member. As for the kids, guess what - they play for the school. The OHSAA can take action against the school; not against admin, coaches etc (unless there is criminal intent). How the kids get even...is for the parents (as a group) to call for resignations of those involved. That puts the pressure back on the Administration (and coaches), where it should be. Comments about Ohio....totally out of place here. They enforce their guidelines

^ actually no, comments about Ohio are not out of place here. If you had a girl who played softball, or a diver. How is it fair to punish her and her teammates when it's the football team and coaches who committed the infractions?

SportsGuy...do not disagree with you. Adults are the root cause in many of these issues. But there are other ways to handle.

Example....a few years ago (not many) Cincy Moeller was "accused" of trying to recruit 8th graders thru the grade school leagues, by a particular GMC (Greater Miami Conference) school. Rumors had been flying for several years previously. The OHSAA investigated, and found no wrong doing

on Moeller's part. But guess what happened.... there were guideline changes made by the OHSAA. The big issue (NO ONE WILL ADMIT THIS), the GMC will not schedule Moeller in football (regular season). They basically are boycotting them. (Colerain will scrimmage them in pre-season).

That's it. Eventually this will end (I hope). Unless there is criminal intent (then the courts get involved) the only recourse the OHSAA has is to take action against the member school. The KHSAA is probably the same way.
