Raceland doesn't like Fairview and Fairview doesn't like Raceland. That is a rivalry. As much as I like Raceland to blow out Fairview, it is the close games that keep it intense, honestly. However, I spoke to a Fairview coach over the summer while I was working out and I respect the coaches that are there now. He knew what was going on and will admit to anyone that he didn't like it but he didn't have a say on what was happening. What needs to be restored within the rivalry is respect for each team. Respect that either team can win because year in and year out there will be two good programs on the field. But I love the hatred!! It makes the rivalry.

I agree with both hate each other and as what you said about resect between the two, if I am some kind of bad person for saying what feel about west Ashland then so be it. I gained respect for them when they hired Chad Tackett, I know that he got the rewards of having a good WVA transfer in that group. That was not his choice, when he refused to go along with the same cooked superintendent then as now then "Fairview" lost ALL credibility, The long time coach there even got disgusted with them. Actually, west Ashland / Raceland bitter rivalry started with coaches Larry Heck ( Race) and Paul Reliford (Fview). That school in West Ashland started recruiting way back to the "Westwood Boys Club" days, which really at that time was the feeder system for Fairview football due to the boys club had a jfl and older kids type teams for years. When Fview started football, it was basically those WBC kids. That was no problem, the problem even back then was the Boys Club Teams (JFL ages) was the standard for, even in jfl, brining in older than age group kids to play ....the standard joke throughout the area was the WW Boys Club had kids with full beards playing little league football. lol Anyway one gets the idea.

Talon, I owe you an apology. When I am wrong, I admit it. When I made my tongue-in-cheek comment, I was wrong. I thought the player had gone back to Huntington. It was a mistake and I'm sorry.

And for what it's worth, I am sorry to hear that King is hurt. Raceland may not like the team in Westwood but it's a true spirited rival. I just hope that it continues to be a great rivalry. I love going to your stadium and being booed, just as I am sure you'll love it Friday night. This is what high school football is all about. After the game in Westwood a few weeks ago, I spoke to several of your players and coaches. Great guys, but when it's leading up to the game it's intense. I love it!!!! We can all be friendly about 10pm Friday night but until then, I can't say or even write the "F" word. LOL

 

I appreciate , & accept your apology . Agree, with everything you said , & what others has said about our rivalry . It is spirt filled , fun , & can be intense . I do love the rivalry i just want both sides to keep it classy , it has strayed away from being classy like it use to be . We have great coaches now who i think are class acts , & i think that has shown this year . Im just sick of hearing what i like to refer to as "the dead horse" , & wish people would quit beating it . Westwood / Fairview has a lot of good people in it who is tired of the crap , & i think this past election showed that . Your comment you made here sidelinedoc was class

And I too want to add that there are plenty of great people in Westwood. I am friends with several. The problem is, we joke/kid each other with barbs like I state on hear and we know that it is spoken in fun. I can see how some of my comments could be taken otherwise.

I am also sick of what went on and I hope that you guys continue to vote out the riff raft. Raceland is not innocent. We have players get in trouble, adults who act foolish but we all lose focus on what is important and that is kids playing sports in the best 4 years of their lives. These rival games are what they'll be talking about 30 years from now....... Like I do.

Sounds to me like you're a student/player at Fairview. Not that I care. Anyways, yep. We got a 'transfer' if that's what you want to call it. He was from Sweden. 6'5" 280 pounds. Starts on the offensive line for Marshall University #71. We beat Fairview that year, twice.

And it seems like Fairview didn't, per the KHSAA. Regardless, you won't win that fight. Also, he's 6'5" and 280 lbs of pure muscle starting on the 9-0 offensive line of Marshall University, #71. Heck of a player. Anyways, we also beat Fairview that year--TWICE.

 

Raceland hates losing. Period. Sure do. And I think this picture justifies the 'rivalry' between us. We hate losing. So don't call me out when you haven't done the research.

Sad that a school that was in the state championship game just two seasons ago is facing this in their younger grades.

 

They (Fairview Schools Admnistration) have no one to blame but themselves. Several parents have took their kids out of football due to all that was done, especially in the way the way that it was done. Fairview schools administration are still unapologetic for their proven actions and reasons for them. Some took their kids out of the school system entirely. This school is still on probation along with yet another (3rd in 3 years I believe) investigation of the football program along with actions dealing with several charges / inquiries on the school system itself. I haven't heard anything and/or know when a decision on the new investigations will be announced.

Most of the so called "Raceland recruits" were / are kids from Greenup County that who's Parents moved them to Raceland schools bc 1. Academics, at the time GCHS were having all sorts of trouble within their school system, actually was taken over / ran by the KY. State Education Dept. and RWHS has long been known for i's academic scores/ratings in Elementary as well as High School levels . Reason 2. - simple math / economics. With a lot of the kids in the GC district live just a few miles from RWHS, 1/2 to 1 mile in some cases while GCHS is in Lloyd / South Shore area of the county. They didn't want the kids to have to wake up at the very early hours of the a.m. they had to for a GC Bus and driving that distance and back 5 days a week, more than one trip per day if kids were in sports or any other programs with the school. A short drive from Wurtland, Greenup and areas worked out far better, not to mention the academic advantage.

 

SO....OrangeCrush ... do we have any of those 3rd to 6th grader's that are playing varsity ? I had heard that we had a linebacker that was really undersized and need maturity but he was quick ! :isurrender: :lol2:
