Coaching Changes....

Featured Replies

That's sad if NCC really did fire him over the phone and wasn't willing to get his side of the story. I don’t have a dog in this fight I don't even know coach Mike. But what I do know is he has been successful over the last few seasons, his teams always seemed to be ready to play when in counted. I'm not saying if true what he did was ok I certainly would not support using language with young players to make a point. However the point is it doesn't seem to me that he ever got a chance to offer his side of the story. And yes I do believe it will be tough for NCC to find a good coach for the money most schools want to pay. I believe most high school coaches average about $3.50 per hour when you factor in the amount of hours they put into these young men (our boys). And to find coaches like Mike and many others who are willing to do it not for the money but for the love of the game and the opportunity to give back VIA developing these young men is RARE!!!! Good luck NCC this one may just come back to haunt you.....

When is all is said and done, I think there will be additional opening(s) out there soon... question is... will someone want to take it.

I am not a lifer up on "the hill", meaning I don't go there, but I have kids that have gone through and played multiple sports, and I agree with Mexitucky on this. To Ncc's credit, they don't let allow the parents to call the shot when it comes to taking care of little Johnny or Suzy. I did not have a kid that played boy's soccer, so I am not familiar how this shook down, but I would think there would have to be much more to the story than this. As far as the coaches going crazy in football, it is a different sport and that is part of the game to get kids "motivated".

Are you saying it would be OK for the Football coach to go "crazy"... but not for the Futbol coach?

Coach McDonald was called in to meet with the Athletic Director and Principal due to complaints made by players and parents. Detzel contacted Mike and asked him to come meet to discuss the issues. Mike told him that he would not come in to hear them bad-mouth him and that they probably already had their minds made up. The day of the meeting came and went and Mike did not show up. He was dismissed as you or I or anyone else that fails to comply with the bosses request to talk about issues with your employment. Mike's achievements at NCC do speak for themselves. Also, winning records and regional championships are not all that it's about. This is a Catholic school and the leaders of the programs there need to be above reproach.

I feel that there are quality coaches that can run quality programs that will be interested in the position at NCC. If you are a successful coach and looking to build a resume, please consider applying to the school on the hill. You will be given the support of the administration, parents and players as long as you contribute to the character development of the student-athletes. Nuff said.

I think you might have left out the part about getting support if you are playing "my boy" as much as "I" think you should.

Again, I don't really remember parents having THAT kind of influence at NewCath. I know what Dawn would tell a parent, or Wagner. It wouldn't be unprofessional, but the meaning wouldn't be lost.

After a conversation with Mike McDonald, he informed me that he was let go over the phone. He did say that after the fact he was offered by the AD that if he wanted to plead his case that he could call the principal and set up a meeting, there was never a date set because he feels that if the parents don't want him there then he will step aside and hope the best for the program. I know Mike really enjoyed being at Ncc and his heart was set on being there for years to come.

New administration, New rules?

New administration, New rules?

I doubt it. Still same guys in the athletic department and they were always high character.

From my understanding ( talking to Mike) one side of the story

The AD went to bat for him but the complaint went to the principal and he had made up his mind.

I don't know, but I could understand that. In that case, obviously, you would be correct. If that is the case, then I'm not a fan of what the Prinicpal did. Can't start a precedent of parental pressure dictating playing time.

As for McDonald being dismissed, I have heard that there were parents that weren't happy with playing time so they had him run off. From the sounds of it, they came with pitch forks to his swamp like a scene from Shrek

That's NOT the case at all, I can assure of that.

What part is not true?
