Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi

Don't see the correlation on some Seals talking about Bin Laden and trying to get a marine out of a Mexican prison - totally different situations. I agree the Seals should not be talking about the Bin Laden deal...just like the Obama Adm.' date=' which was the source of a lot of leaks on Bin Laden as well. I have not even heard Obama mention Tahmooressi one time. If he has, correct me. He certainly had no trouble announcing to the world about getting the deserter out - by giving the terrorists five of their guys back and having a White House press conference about it.[/quote']

Again not trying to argue. We don't need to know every detail. If it happens again, we don't need to let others know what we did or didn't do

Why wouldn't the government say what they have or haven't done to help? It's not like this guy was a Navy Seal on a mission or a prisoner or war whose release we were negotiating. This was an American citizen who got himself into trouble and needed help from his country. Isn't that why we have embassies in other countries? Why we have diplomatic relations with other countries?

Where is the line that says what Americans who have broken another country's laws get help and which ones do not?

There isn't one. I would hope that decorated marine vets would get the benefit of the doubt with our govt though. He took a wrong turn on a very confusing highway into Mexico. Van Susteren has shown where he went in and how confusing it is - especially at night. That was his big crime.

We don't know what happened. Reports are that film shows he was not trying to turn around.

He has shown that the truth can be a challenge for him. So why should we believe he was lost ?

We can just agree to disagree on this one. It doesn't bother you or SportsGuy. It does bother me...a lot. If he had drugs on him or was smuggling guns, then throw him in jail. Nobody is saying he did - he only had the three on him- I hardly think he was smuggling in three guns.

BTW, I do think the guy has some issues...diagnosed with PTSD. Even more reason to help him.

The L.A. Times has covered this story quite well. Here's a story from August that does a decent job of providing factual background that's not muddled by attacks on Obama, etc.

Nothing new here other than bashing Fox News instead of Obama. And the disgusting attack on Sgt. Tahmooressi's mother.

What are we disagreeing on?

We do not know the truth in regards to his actions or what the govt did.

What a hatchet job. Rip the mom and make the Mexican prison sound like a country club. I have seen him interviewed. He in detail talks about the beatings he took and that he tried to escape and commit suicide. I will choose to believe him over the Mexicans quoted in the story that the LA Times seem to believe implicitly. Again, I believe the guy has issues. I will take Greta Susteren's reporting on the story over the LA Times any day. I am sure you will disagree Two but the story actually called a magazine in Mexico "fearless", like that gives the story validity.

I don't think the government (at least not the Obama administration) did anything Clyde. That is my point. I did hear Bill Richardson from New Mexico talking about it and a couple of other local congressman who were involved with the mother. Montel Williams (hardly a conservative guy to my knowledge but a military supporter) has also been VERY VOCAL about it and was there when he got out.

I guess we disagree because it ticks me off and it does not seem to tick you off. I respect you a lot based on your posts - agree with you far more than not - but we just see this on differently.

Another vote for Fox vs. the world. Which is why meaningful discussion about this story, and scores more on these boards, is usually impossible ... because of source selection.

Again, I get that you don't believe it. I'm asking how you would know. It's just supposition.

Without knowing what really happened how am I supposed to know if I should be ticked off or not?

It's Mexico who we can't trust very much. The guy has shown to lie. I don't have reason to believe either of them.

If they were holding him for 'smuggling guns' I do wonder if they have an interpol warrent on Holder.
