Man, you got me there... by the way congradulations on having the best tennis team in the tri-county oh that is Corbin, not to mention all of those A.P. courses, that the county offers, just out of curiousity how many schools pass their c.a.t.s test, just one! I am glad we don't go to school to learn.

Anyway, has anyone heard about who Williamsburg is going ot hire?

must be tough to offer so many sports and actually have enough students to play them.

I am still hearing Rich Prewitt is coming to Williamsburg. As mentioned above, he apparently prefers to come as a school administrator and basketball advisor. Rich is a very sound basketball coach in all aspects of the game. At this point in his career, however; he reportedly would like to concentrate on teaching basketball and steer clear of the admistrative duties of the head coach ie parents, media, player discipline, program promotion. Rich has been there and done that, as far as the administrative duties are concerned. He wants to develop basketball players and feel the rush of competition. I do not think Williamsburg could make a better hire than Rich Prewitt. He is a class act. I know that I would love Rich to coach my son. I believe that most parents that have been associated with Rich, would say the same thing. Rich would be missed in the county. He is an excellent principal and an avid supporter of everything," Whitley". Being a basketball nut myself, I can certainly understand a former highly successful coaches' desire to return, to his first love. The thrill of competition and comradary of a well coached team are blessed entities that forever call to an old coach. I hope this situation works out well for every one involved.

Williamsburg is and has always been a very fine high school. I am a Whitley man, but I always pull for Williamsburg and Corbin, when they are not playing Whitley. The days for petty rivalry, jealousy, and general mean spiritedness between these three schools are over. All three are good schools and serve our children well. I believe that there are abundant opportunities for success for these three schools to share. It is a great reflection on the entire county anytime either school performs well. Williamsburg has a great group of supporters and quality athletes, with a guy like Rich on board, they will win. I think Rich took them to the Regional finals the last time he was at Williamsburg. This type of success wouldl return with him. The man can coach. :thumb:

Ok Mutt....are you saying now that Coach Prewitt is the leading person for the job? ....I know earlier it was Overbey, then Guffy and now Prewitt......so who is it gonna be? I think your inside sources maybe just guessing names and saying they are the chosen one. You make some very good points and address some common myths about Whitley and Williamsburg....Urban legend has it..... a stranger will come riding in from the open range and re-store the pride, dignity and tradition back to the YellowJacket Bball program....but who will it be?:sssh:

Can anyone tell us who is really in the running for the job?

Not sure where he is now but what about Donnie McFarland. Graduated from Wburg in about 74. I know he coached at Simon Kenton years ago. Master do you know if he is still in coaching.

Of the aboved mentioned only 1 has applied.

Donnie McFarland is an assistant Coach at Northern Kentucky University presently, I think his son is a member of the team as well.... and is a Principal at Boone County, so I doubt he would be interested.

Mastermind,

Overbay is out of the picture. He will be coaching Whitley's Girls (JV). There was indeed a lot of mutual interest between Wiliamsburg and Overbay. I think maybe two things happened, 1) Williamsburg was more interested in Jerry as a JV coach than as a head coach. 2) Whitley gave Jerry the girls assisstant job. Conclusion: Jerry was only interested in a move if he could get a head coaching job. Williamsburg felt he was too young. Jerry got a high school job at Whitley knowing that Larry Anderson is approaching retirement.

I think there is real mutual interest between Rich and Williamsburg. I am not sure what the barganing chips are.

How or whether Guffy fits into the picture most likely depends upon what Rich does. Williamsburg apparentently (and appropriately) feels that Guffy is too inexperienced to run the program by himself at this point. They like his personality and energy but feel he needs three or four years of mentoring.

Unlike Rich, most of the established names would prefer to be the head coach and bring their own assisstant. This would preclude Guffy.

This is what the Mutt has been hearing from multiple sources close to the situation. Everyone could be BSing me, but I doubt it. The scenario seems reasonable to me.

Makes sense to me....keep digging and you will get to the bottom of it..:fight:

My sources in Knox County tell me that Richard Prewitt will be available. If coach Elam had been on the hot seat, he may not have been but Elam will be back at least for one more campaign.

My sources also tell me that Mr. Prewitt is not going to leave unless he can make near the kind of money he is making at Whiltey County, so that may rule him out as a canidate for the job. No doubt he could be successful at Williamsburg, but the chances of him going are very small.

As for Guffey, he may be headed north as a middle school coach, although it would be a long shot. More likely, but not a given, is coming over here and assisting his old friend and working along side his mentor.

I expect the next Williamsburg coach to be somebody totally unexpected, a relative unknown, who is young and looking to make a name for himself before moving on to bigger and better things.

The job is Hicks if he wants it.........If not then it is wide open...Prewitt maybe the coach but he has not applied as of Friday or talked to anyone who has a say ....

That is what I have been hearing as well. I think Hicks would be a good choice if he decides to take the position. I can not see Prewitt talking to anyone until they approach him. Williamsburg will have to do most of the courting to get any established Coach. I would not expect people with experience to be knocking the doors down at 1000 Main. The Adminstration has an opportunity to turn things around with a good selection. Best of luck to the Jackets as they attempt to restore their basketball program.

There have been at least 10 applications. I would say Hicks is the front runner but interviews will start probably next week and it could be very interesting because I believe Mr. Byrd and Mr. Peters will hire the best person for the job.
