Talent goes in cycles fellas. Could Raceland have beaten Russell during the great run of early to mid 2000s? The Devils were winning state titles and region titles. The Russell Raceland game is good for both communities. This year's game would have been a dandy.

 

Probably not in those years. Having said that, I wouldn't count Raceland kids out anytime vs. Russell, those kids get sky high, play on another level. I am not so sure that Russell felt the same way in some of the years.

Regardless, Raceland / Russell is a lot of like my family - alums of both schools ..... nephews, nieces, cousins, in laws playing against one another. I actually was in the church, witnessed Russell fans "boo" the Raceland fans :lol2: - pastor had kids in that were students in both schools / some players on both stand up - all were acknowledged, it was great.

:thumb: Agreed, I also remember a lot of Russell fans disrespecting, they were the big 3A school, Raceland as nothing more than Lil' Brother, didn't register on their elite scale.. Russell Finally, after approx. 25+ years agreed to play Raceland laughed about it when it was renewed. After 6 years and 5 consecutive butt kickins' by Lil bother on the better than thou school 1 1/2 miles away - Russell called the series off.

I realize that this old, old rival series will start back up next season and I am fine with it but I have to say if I were in the decision / contract say at Raceland I wouldn't had renewed the series.....yet. I would ad to have given it back to them in saying something like "no, there is not really that much in it for us anymore, I think that we will search out other games, there is nothing to prove with beating Russell. :idunno:

I agree. I don't think we should have renewed the series until there was more talk from the Russell fans. The reason we renewed it the first time is because we thought we could compete with them and the Ram fans were talking about it. So Russell thought we were stupid because they had won a state championship and the first year the contract was renewed, The Rams lost and the Red Devils made it back to the finals that year. Yeah, the next five the Rams won. I think the Rams made their point and Russell got the message. We proved a point. Now, I don't think we should because no one talked it up like it was talked up the first time.

 

With that being said, the kids at Raceland no longer like Russell. They respect Russell but they don't like them on the field. And that's from a personal experience. Raceland proved their point.

 

Does Raceland have a speed advantage? We was able to matchup pretty well with the speed of Baker and Long from Ashland. We held Baker to 70 yards and Long to 60 yards Rushing using our speed to contain them.

 

Let us talk about this--Any team can defend one or two players. I firmly believe it because Raceland has done it year in and year out. If you have one good player and the rest of the team is mediocre, I think the Rams win those games 9 out of 10 times, the one game being an Ashland team. Raceland has a good defense year in and year out. Anyone can stop one player. But who can stop three, four, or five? Ironton has a few good backs, which is good. But Raceland has three good backs and four or five on the edge of being good. That is why I think Raceland is just as good as last year's Raceland team. Last year, Raceland grounded and pounded on their opponents with their size and strength. This year, Raceland with pound it up the middle, suck the defense in, and then kill you on the edge with their speed. That is what makes this team dangerous. This team is more diverse than last year's team. I truly believe that Ironton won't have more than 120 yards rushing this Friday. And I think the Rams will be very balanced with 175 rush and 200 pass.

The line last year was much larger, but this year the line has a lot of heart. I think they can do some special things this year as well. This team is good and I firmly believe they can do some good things this Friday. They love the sport.

I don't know about holding us to 120 yards Rushing, maybe. Jackson (9-0) held us to 240 Rushing and 80 Passing and they are probably the best Team we played all year. They are ranked #8 in D3 (4A in KY) and they were pretty quick with good size, their LB is going to play at Stanford next year. Friday is getting closer, this is going to be a great game. GO TIGERS........

Final preparation today Rams. FOCUS on the fine game plan that coach Salmons and staff has put in place. As is in every game, that game is worthless if you don't EXECUTE !
