I agree with "it's another game" but granted, Ironton is good and better than last year. I don't know how the game would have turned out if it was played at Ironton last year. But the Rams have a challenge this week. I think the Rams have a good chance to pull it out but they are going to have to play their best to this point to do it and I think Coach Salmons and Coach Lewis are putting in an excellent gameplan for the game.

A lot of schools treat Raceland this way, but there has been a lot of upset people in Raceland's 500+ wins.

:thumb: Agreed, I also remember a lot of Russell fans disrespecting, they were the big 3A school, Raceland as nothing more than Lil' Brother, didn't register on their elite scale.. Russell Finally, after approx. 25+ years agreed to play Raceland laughed about it when it was renewed. After 6 years and 5 consecutive butt kickins' by Lil bother on the better than thou school 1 1/2 miles away - Russell called the series off.

I realize that this old, old rival series will start back up next season and I am fine with it but I have to say if I were in the decision / contract say at Raceland I wouldn't had renewed the series.....yet. I would ad to have given it back to them in saying something like "no, there is not really that much in it for us anymore, I think that we will search out other games, there is nothing to prove with beating Russell. :idunno:

Being new to the board, from reading posts about the Rams, I was thinking they had multiple state and region titles.

 

I can, in a way understand your comment and believe me when I say I wish that we had a lot of region, state titles. I can tell by your comments that you're not a Raceland student, alum. Very few understand it, sounds like a joke when we say it but .....You just have to be from Raceland or Worthington and some close surrounding areas to know it.

Bottom Line is - These two small communities, school, admin., teachers Live, Love, Eat, Drink and Sleep Ram Football. We talk about it, support it 24 / 7 / 365 ! Every Day here is football season.

I have had friends from other schools, city's and towns tell me how they can't believe the support given to the kids, teams of this place. Most everywhere Raceland plays - our fans will Far Outnumber the home teams, regardless of where it is.

Ironton fans are the same way. Tank Stadium will be overflowing on Friday night despite the predictions of rain, cold, wind and possible wet snow.

Agreed, Ironton is a far better team than last year. This Fighting Tiger team will be By Far the toughest, most physical and most talented team that Raceland has faced this season.

I know Ironton has won State Championships in 1979 and 1989. At one time, they were one of the winningest teams in Ohio with a legendary coach that won over 350 games (at one time the winningest coach in Ohio). They are a storied program.

 

Raceland has won 18 District Championships, won their first Regional Championship last season and has never made a State Championship appearance. Raceland has over 500 wins in 86 years of existence.

 

Doc I am not arguing bc I'm not completely sure but I thought that Raceland has 20 District Titles. The first being in 1975 (were co champs in 74). Are you 100 % sure that it's 18 ?

Talent goes in cycles fellas. Could Raceland have beaten Russell during the great run of early to mid 2000s? The Devils were winning state titles and region titles. The Russell Raceland game is good for both communities. This year's game would have been a dandy.

No we couldn't have beaten them during that cycle. I'd have to disagree with you about playing this year. Raceland is 2-3 TD's better than Russell this year. Next couple of years, barring injuries to either team, it will be a dandy series.

I agree, we shouldn't renew the game just because of everything you stated but facts and reality dictate us playing. Proximity of schools, limited travel budgets and the fact local teams won't renew their contracts with us, force us to schedule Russell. If it were up to me, I would play one less game a year just to be stubborn and to prove a point but at the end of the day, win or lose, the game helps us get ready for our playoff run. I have no ill feelings towards Russell but the way this has always been perceived from the Russell side leaves a bad taste in our mouths.

Does Raceland have a speed advantage? We was able to matchup pretty well with the speed of Baker and Long from Ashland. We held Baker to 70 yards and Long to 60 yards Rushing using our speed to contain them.

I can't speak for GB but I think he may be referring to overall team speed, especially in the passing game. You have the fastest player on the field but we also have the State 110 hurdles champ playing and our linemen are pretty quick. I think the difference in the game will be how we handle Ironton's physicality up front. The team that controls the line of scrimmage wins this game. As our former coach as well as our current coaches preach every day, "the most physical team will win the game."

The big factor in this game is Ironton needs this game to have a home playoff game. We have our playoff games set so this game is just a prep game for us on turf. It's hard to come out like gangbusters when there is nothing on the line. That being said, I expect our guys to play hard.....they love to play football.

Agreed, Russell has some excellent talent in their underclassmen. Freshman, Sophomore classes are especially loaded from what I am told from some friends that are Russell alums, fans.

Yes, I have a lot of Devil fans that are fends :lol2:. Actually myself and both of my sisters married a Red Devil alum. I have always told them (spouse's) that we felt sorry for them and just had to show them some class someway. :sssh:
