Peter Henderson, a journalist, said other soldiers doing drills nearby ran to help the fallen soldier. Henderson said he knew the person shot was a soldier because of the ceremonial uniform the soldier was wearing. [Previous news update, posted at 11:41 a.m. ET] There were "several shooting incidents in downtown Ottawa" on Wednesday morning, police said on Twitter. "Incidents occurred at National War Memorial, near the Rideau Centre and Parliament Hill." All Ottawa police buildings remain on lockdown and are closed to the public, police also said on Twitter. He said several officers had weapons drawn, and most of the dozens of shots that he heard appeared to have been fired by officers at the gunman. When the shooting ended, a person was lying motionless on the ground near the library entrance, Wingrove said. [Original story published at 11:10 a.m. ET] A "lone gunman is deceased" after shots were fired in Ottawa, Canada, a member of the nation's Parliament, Bob Zimmer, tweeted Wednesday. However, after that tweet, there were reports that there may have been further shots fired at Canada's Parliament. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was evacuated from the building and is safe, his press secretary Carl Vallee tweeted.

October 22, 201411 yr Author Soldier from memorial is dead. One shooter is reportedly dead. One to two shooters believed to still be on the loose.
October 22, 201411 yr The shooter, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, began his shooting at 9:52am at the Ottowa War Memorial where he shot a 24 year old reservist on the honor guard at the memorial, Corporal Nathan Cirillo. Cirillo later died of his injuries. Zehaf-Bibeau then continued up the street to the main Parliament building, where he entered at 9:54am and exchanged fire with guards inside the building. Zehaf-Bibeau has been confirmed dead, and although there are no official reports of how he died, Parliament member Craig Scott has Tweeted that Kevin Vickers, Sergeant at Arms of the House of Commons, was responsible for shooting the gunman. There were also initial reports of a shooting at the nearby Rideau Centre mall, but those reports have since been confirmed false.
October 22, 201411 yr Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was a 32-year old Canadian-born man. The name "Zehaf" indicates that he may well be of Algerian descent. Not long after the shooting, an ISIS Twitter account Tweeted the picture below, claiming it to be the Ottowa shooter. There has been no confirmation on whether or not the picture actually is of Zehaf-Bibeau. Also, the same Twitter account that first posted the picture of the alleged shooter was also being followed by Martin Couture-Rouleau. Couture-Rouleau was a 25 year old Quebec native who converted to Islam about a year ago. He had reportedly been embracing Islamic extremist attitudes, and had been very vocal about his anger with Canada for their support of US airstrikes against ISIS. This past Monday, October 20th, Couture-Rouleau intentionally ran over two Canadian soldiers, killing one, and leaving the other still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. After crashing his car in the police chase that followed his hit-and-run, Couture-Rouleau jumped out of his car and came at the police with a knife, and was shot dead in the process.
October 22, 201411 yr It is inevitable that similar attacks will take place in this country. This country is home to some of the most radical mosques in the civilized world and our borders are almost wide open. It is a recipe for disaster concocted by this administration that has met only token opposition from Republican "leadership."
October 22, 201411 yr Regardless of who is in the Whitehouse, or in charge on Capital Hill, this would have happened. It's a new world out there. To say that this administration could have done something isn't true, as one of the longest unsecured borders ever seen is to our north, not the south, and it has been for many many many years. As we all know, this is a new world and this was going to happen no matter what. It isn't about IF, it's WHEN! I know people don't want to hear it, but we need boots on the ground in Iraq, and Syria if needed. I keep hearing brag the government has contacted several groups like Academi to do the bulk of the work "when" we deicide to go in. I have been saying for years, outdoor sporting events are a disaster waiting to happen. Just think of a Bengals game, a person with a rifle on the KY side, maybe even in Devue Park. They could hit several dozen people and leave and the authorities still wouldn't know where the shots came from until later. I pray I'm wrong, but these people have dark souls and are the worse warped people ever to walk this planet.
October 23, 201411 yr You'd have to be an expert marksman to hit someone for Devue Park inside the Bengals stadium, a very good one at that. Fortunately most radacilists are not capable of that type of range. I suppose if you had a large congregation of people anyone with a .308 could do it though.
