Three point shot

Featured Replies

The spot-three point shooter; got to love it. That is how some of us, cough cough, made a high school career on.

I see a lot of kids/teams that can’t seem to get enough of the long ball, and they have no business launching them. It's like baseball players that swing for the fence while nursing a .175 batting average.

On the other hand, the three is a very effective weapon in the hands of a player/team that knows how to use it.

A player/team that can consistently hit 33% from 3 range is the same as a player/team that averages 50% in the paint. Not too bad.

A player/team that can consistently hit 40% from 3 range is the same as a player/team that averages 60% in the paint. Pretty good.

A player/team that can consistently hit better than 40% from 3 range needs to let it fly.

A player/team that cannot consistently hit better than 30% from 3 range needs to save it for the buzzer.

The three point shot has created a generation of spotup 3 ballers and peepoor foul shooters. As the Wizard said kids do not even want to shoot spotup 15 footers much less pull-up jumpers off the dribble. I think the 3 ball should be eliminated from play at any level below 9th grade. You go to elementary or youth league games and kids are slinging the 3 on every possesion. Younger kids are not strong enough to use good form on the 3-ball. This leads to bad form. Kids are so hung up on the long ball that they do not practice anything else. Leave the 3 ball out until high school and kids would have to develop ther skills to score.

I'm so glad that somebody finally put in print these facts about the 3. I've also known this but never posted it for some reason. I get so tired of hearing the easy cliches' like " live by the 3, die by the 3". The fact is if a player shot 50-60 percent from inside the arc, we wouldn't be saying "live by the 2, die by the 2." Most people tend only to repeat what they have heard from someone else without thinking these things all the way through. This quote by fastbreak ought to be pinned permanently to the top of the basketball forum EVERY YEAR.

Thanks Fastbreak, I can finally die in peace!

Great post and a great idea. Since the little guys can't dunk, the next logical step is to throw up the long ball. You nailed it! :thumb:

The 3 point line has created a whole generation of stand-still spot shooters.

ONE OF THE BEST STAND STILL SPOT SHOOTERS OF HIS TIME WAS NATHAN HABERMEHL OF AUGUSTA..

CovCath lives by the 3 in the first half, then comes out going to the basket in the second half. Not necessarily the game plan but it always seems to turn out like that.

And RadioGuy, CovCath is considered a top 2nd half team! So I guess you are right.

Very well said. CCH will be one of teh top 3pt shooting teams this weekend most likely. I dont no many times this year when the 3 has really hurt the colonels. In the 3 region games they played they hit a total of 24 3's, and Noll coming up HUGE (cant say that enough) with 8 in the 3 games. The colonels have 5-6 very good threat's from deep and with one of tehm being the #4 guy.....U better be watch out.

GO COLONELS TAKE STATE!:ylsuper:
