The officials that make no attempt to keep up with the play should hang it up. There are too many. (1 is too many). ARs too. Hard to say a ball has crossed the endline when you're 5-10 yards from it.

Agree. Welcome to BGP, Pigeye!

Ok.....since this is turning into a refs discussion....here is my tw cents after my second Woodford and coke in the Memphis airport.....

Along with being in the correct position, another pet peave are the refs who feel they need to talk to the players all game. Let them play. More times than I can count, I have seen refs talking all game t players so the players feel they can talk to the ref and when they do....yellow....

Play the game......ref the game......let me do the talking from the stands.

Have a couple for me... I will be sitting in the cold, rainy weather, tonight.

It's the ARs responsibility to stay even with the second-to-last defender, until the ball passes that defender. If that player is 10 yards from the endline when a ball is passed thru, and crosses the endline .. you're right, it's hard to tell, especially if it's played with a lot of velocity. But the AR was in the correct position.

Except it's not the right position. The correct position for an AR is with the 2nd last defender or ball whichever is closest to the goal line. That said it is often pointless to run to the goal line on an obviously booted goal kick.

Isn't that what I said?

I can't believe this thread has gotten so long considering it's not even about Scott or CCH!! :)

In my days as an official you were taught/evaluated to have thick skin when it comes to words but not accept visible or too vocal dissent from players. Captains are identified at the beginning of games and those are the ONLY players that should address the officials. Most of the officials that I have seen this year are very good about the technical calls (the easiest calls to make) but are not very good at making calls within the play. The call I mentioned as being a major factor in the outcome of this game, as it gave HHS their only goal, was a fine example of low quality official making a bad call in the play. I found it shocking that a friend told me this official actually teaches the officiating course. Maybe that has much to do with the quality of officiating we see. I don't want to take anything away from the HHS team as they competed well and represented HHS very well.

Once again I will say, if you think you can do better, pass the test and pick up a whistle. I applaud all officials who have to put up with the chatter of parents on the sideline who think they know more. And if you say you do know better, see the 1st sentence of this post.

Are you really going to argue the call was poor when you didn't even know what the call was? If the ref believed that the NCC kid went down way too easy in an attempt to get the call (flopping if you will) and handled the ball on the ground - the call might have beeen correct. Hard to know for sure since we have a "sidelineview". :) Now we can argue until the cows come home if the kid was fouled or flopped, but I believe that is what was called.

Wow, tough way to go out for NCC...sounds like it was a great game!

NCC will draw one of the three other District champs in Regionals. Very likely the toughest #2 in Regionals.

So do I have this right? First game in district is the final? Both go on? Or, is NCC out as Sportsfan says?

And, they say that CCH district is easy.

Only 2 teams in district. Both advance. Strictly for pride and regional draw.

There is no way that could be called a flop. The HHS player pushed the NCC player causing him and the ball to go out of bounds. Not sure if you were there or if you remember the play but both players sprinting to the ball, NCC arrives first and is pushed from behind. Nothing to argue.

That is fine, but at least you understand the call you don't like. :D

Cov Cath district is easy, Holmes, Latin, Holy Cross. You could put the three teams together and still wouldn't beat Cov Cath.

If you were to win a district, would you rather draw the loser of Cov Cath holy cross or highlands/Ncc?

So you're saying that you'd rather play two of either Holmes, Cov Latin or Holy Cross than have a 100% chance to advance. Wow!

I do not think that is what Flops means...

He is talking about the District winners playing a District Runner-Up next week. Would you rather play NCC, or Holy Cross next week? This question also assumes that CCH takes care of business and wins the District when they play Holy Cross.

I almost always agree with this sentiment, especially during regular season games. This is a district final with implications in the regional draw. It's not inappropriate to expect a well officiated game in the playoffs.
