Either way can't be real accurate hard to evaluate lady legends team ( my daughter's aau team) against teams from 46 other states without the person or persons who do the rankings putting eyeballs on all aau teams! Why does it have to be about rankings anyways?? It was a great experience and a way to put my daughter on a gym floor to work on her skill set and get better at something she loves to do!

 

I'm not sure...do you have to be present at nationals to be ranked? I'm asking, I'm really not sure. Meaning...could there be teams in the rankings that didn't even go and the rankings are a accumulation of the year and not just the national tournament?

I would have thought they would rank teams based on finishes in different tournaments, etc. However, that can be misleading as well if you have teams that just happened to play in a lot more tournaments than others. I would imagine some elite tournaments may have more "weighting" than others. But at the end of the day, rankings are just discussion points. But still a nice achievement for kids and the only real way to measure their team success without winning a national.

I agree its not real accurate. Heck, most of the better teams aren't even playing AAU by the time they are in high school. They play the showcase events and the AAU tournaments don't really mean all that much to them. For example, did the KY Premier play in the AAU states? They are by far the best girls team in KY. I don't think they played AAU Nationals either. I may be wrong. But my point is, there are SEVERAL teams that play at a different level. I know in the 7th grade division, the defending national champ from the year before didn't play in 1 AAU tournament all year. They played the other elite events.

 

And you're right, it's not about rankings. This threads was started by someone on your daughter's team and others added to the congrats for them and others. That's all this is about.

From my understanding, this is correct. Each club is responsible for turning in their wins, losses, scores, opponents, etc. I assume it is calculated from that. It is not taken from the national tournament results only as most major clubs don't play that anymore anyway. It is from your records, scores and performances turned in from all the various tournaments you play.

 

And yes...it has to be difficult or down right impossible to truly rank these teams. I know the shinning star (Lay) team beat at least two of the teams above them, including the number 13 Dayton Vipers at a Super Regional in Mason OH. They also lost to at least one ranked below them. So there you have it, you will go in circles trying to rank them.

 

To me, it is more or less for fun, discussion, certainly competition, and for the girls to have a sense of accomplishment.

appreciate the honesty .. In the words of Chris Carter..C'mon Man... The thread was about Power Rankings..your comment to legend ranking was "nice! " ...then when others chimed in with other rankings your opinion turned to questioning rankings that you had just given a "nice!" Don't get me wrong ...Legends are an excellent team that can compete with anyone .. I think the overall point is NKY seems to have a boat load of 2016 grads that are really talented and kudos to all the young ladies that worked hard last summer with a lot of positive results. Legends, Stars, Cincy Swish, Cincy Finest, Legacy...Premier...all with NKY talent that we get to see in school ball action ...should be fun year!

Wonder how the ranking where decided as the 1st and 2nd place teams at this years Nationals in Mason came in at 13th and 14th in the final D1 rankings.

It certainly could be impressive. It depends on which KY Premier team. There is not just one, they have many.

 

KY Premier has some awesome team(s)...but they also have seen some that struggle.
