Legal hit, ball was way overthrown. But I will concede he made no attempt for the ball. Didn't have to according to the rule.

Try as you might to justify that, the hit was illegal. It can fall under targeting on a defenseless receiver. That would've been an ejection in the NFL and a hefty fine.
