I don't know how long you have been a BC fan, but Mason has brought the criticism on his self with his actions on and off the field. He is a Quality coach , but I think if you walked thru the stands on any given Friday night and asked peoples opinions about him you would be surprised at the response you would get.

 

I've known Coach Mason personally for over a decade. Our kids played sports together and I'll always have nothing but good things to say about Coach Mason and I have no complaints about him on or off the field. I've heard him criticized many many times over the years. No problem with that and I wouldn't be surprised at any of the responses. When a person is a coach criticism is just part of it. I simply don't agree with the criticisms about Coach Mason is all. I've been a part of the Boyle County family since 2000 and the only coaches I know of to not be criticized by people from Boyle County are Chuck Smith and Jeff Hester. Every other coach in every single sport at Boyle County is criticized or has been criticized at some point.

I think Mason does a good job calling the offense. He throws it when he has too, but if other teams can't stop the run why pass? There hasn't been a team yet to slow down Aiden Hoskins, so why go away from it!

You know what they say about options don't you, I went to Boyle and played there and I've been sitting in those stands long far longer than You or Mason have been there. I'm sure you know football, but I do to,and l've watched Mason long enough to know what play he's gonna run before it happens from the formation their lined up in. He is very easy to pattern.like I said he's a quality coach, but not my first choice for an OC.

Nothing wrong with that. I love the dude and enjoy being around him. Like I stated earlier, I have never seen him not get the full potential from a Boyle County offense nor have I ever felt like his play calling has cost us a game. For me that is more important than anything else.

Well also from a fan perspective, what is the difference between Poor Play Calls and Poor Play Execution by the players. The Way I look at it is that we won. We are Rebels Fans correct? Like our Mission Statement says

Together One Mission.

 

I agree we are all in it togather, but we all see things differently what you see as poor execution I may see as poor play calling for the situation. Sometimes we have to agree to disagree.

If you want professional opinions about his ability to call plays, just talk to some of the assistant coaches that have left and gone on to other program, some as head coaches. They are amazed that he is still the OC. More than one made the comment that if their team can stay close until the last quarter that he will always choke when the game is on the line. He has been fortunate that he had good players to bail him out in some of those situations. What does the fact that you like him or you think he is a good guy have to do with his ability to call the correct play or have the players on the field to be able to produce the needed results. He does not have a good feel for the game, is a slow decision maker and shows no continuity or rhythm in his play calling.

Chris Mason is a good friend of mine and an outstanding coach. But, even if I had never met him, I think Larry French and Chuck Smith are both GREAT head football coaches. Both of those guys chose Chris Mason to be their OC. If I had never met Chris Mason, that fact alone would carry a lot of weight with me.

IMO French chose him as OC, and Smith left him as OC to avoid to much change on offense, and possibly Mason was the most qualified coach on the staff for the job. I've heard that Smith would like to have had Pardue back on the staff.

I would also like someone to explain why 80 % of our plays are run out of a one back pro set. We have one outstanding running back in Stewart-Hoskins, and two other very good backs in Devins and Brown. Robbins is a threat any time he runs the ball to take it all the way. Our receivers are not the quality you need in a pro style offense. Why wouldn't we be in a two back set most of the time?

Why wear and tear 2 backs at the same time when all of the running backs play both sides of the ball?
