James Madison University students drown out preacher

Featured Replies

A preacher decided to go onto the campus of James Madison University yesterday to "preach", but what he got was a great response on how He loves us!

I have no idea what the preacher was trying to say, but I certainly recognized the religious bigots at work. Whatever happened to the notion of politely ignoring the voices of people with whom you disagree - or engaging them in civil debate? This was a shameful display of intolerance. At least the students did not pummel him with their fists.

Many people would have yelled back at him, then he at the students, no one hearing or caring to hear about the other. Nice restraint by the students and to sing a religious song. A classy way of doing things.

The students behaved like empty headed idiots. Their parents should demand their tuition money back.

There is nothing classy about stomping on somebody else's freedom of speech.

Whatever! They showed him what REAL Christians are like, as well as that God and Jesus loves ALL of us!

Freedom of speech? Would you say the same when people drown out Westboro Baptist? Or would you say that people that do are "stomping on somebody's freedom of speech? You say he had the freedom to speak, the students have the freedom to sing!

I am sure those students have heard his freedom of speech message many times, and then decided to exercise their own freedom of speech. I like their message.

It's not freedom of speech when you allow only people who agree with you to be heard.

Why was his freedom of speech any more important than their freedom of speech? They have the right to talk just like he does...I didn't see anyone attack him or the police remove him. His rights were not trampled on in any way. He can speak all he wants to, doesn't mean anyone has to listen.

I didn't watch the video. Did the preacher say things that were offensive to be compared to Westboro?

no, not really. Just telling people they were going to hell. Then calling the guy playing the guitar a pervert, for whatever reason.

And these are not what some may call some "punk college kids". I will bet anything that all the kids singing are very Christian, and possibly sing at church or in a church youth group. You just don't start singing the very popular Christian song "How HE loves us" without singing it good deal.

God Bless, I'm our for the night, had a horrible late afternoon.

So you're calling the students "religious bigots" for singing a Christian song? Riiiiiight.

no, not really. Just telling people they were going to hell.

There was a semi-regular preacher outside the student center at UK when I was there in the early-2000s. Some people I knew loved to fight with him and it would end up with both sides just yelling at each other. I never stopped to listen to either side. It always seemed like there were many better ways to spread the gospel, or any other type of information, than just yelling at other people.
