Probably an obvious answer but why is this game called the Cow Bowl?

 

Cow Days is a fall festival every year in Greensburg, and this game is almost always played on that same weekend. Thus...the Cow Bowl.

MTV birthday party for C-Ville student. This started the slide for the Eagles. I think Bridgewater/Downs/Anthony Anderson were all held under 100 yards total offense to a Green County team that had a combined 2-28 record in the previous 3 seasons. The thing is I know Middle School is Middle School, but for Green To get beat 48-0 in a JV game to a team that they beat in Middle School two seasons ago 38-7 there is something wrong in DRAGONLAND. I did not see this landslide coming.

The problem in Dragon Land is coaching. Engstrand is a nice guy but when it comes to running a program, he is in way over his head. I stand by my Campbellsville by 17 comment.

I do not think it is coaching, nor do I think it is talent. I think that Griff knew the culture and what he could and could not do. I played against him from Little League on, and he coached as hard he played. His teams toughness and loyalty to the school and program was evident in his players and staff. With that being said when Tucker left so did Griffs support. The weight room, little league football, and seven winning seasons got him nothing in the end.

Maybe nothing is wrong in dragon land maybe Cville has just been working harder during off season to improve. Cville kids got tired of getting beat down every Friday night and bought in to getting better everyday. I've heard they had some pretty crazy off season workouts that were not just your typical bench and squats. It's showing up on the field now. Can't wait to see how this years Cow Bowl plays out. Anyone know the last time Cville actually won at Green co?? Like to know that. Good luck to both teams.

As stated by "optionfootball" discipline has been one thing Campbellsville has lacked for years and is one reason why they haven't won with some of the talent they have had. I also agree that the culture that existed under Coach G was much better. With that being said our upper-classmen were around during that time and the culture/toughness still lingers and is still evident in getting them through games that they have owned for years. It's been a long time since Campbellsville beat Green and I don't see the streak ending Friday @ Green!

It is no secret in the area that the talent pool is down at Green and on the rise at cville, and in many cases coaches don't get out when the talent is at its highest. The speed Green has been used to isn't there and will be especially noticeable come track season. Lets face it, speed kills and has been in the GC backfield for years...but not this year from what I have heard from those who have seen them play. Perhaps I have bad info. Good luck to both teams...how long has this game been played as a bowl? Is it always played at GC?

Tell ya what I bet you could do.

 

Take the kids in this group from Campbellsville and take the kids from Green County.....go back in time over the years, line'em up in track meet & see who wins, every year and my guess is on the Purple Haze & it's not. even. close.

 

But, the "working harder" reason gives more self validation. There is zero doubt in my mind that Campbellsville hasn't worked their tails off, zero doubt as has Green County I'm sure.

 

Having coached for a long time before, I've been on both sides of the spectrum. Teams who have gone O'fer, teams that have gone 15-0, to .500 and fighting your butt off to be 2-9 when you probably should have been O'fer again. Some of them are fulfilling, and others are just a lot more enjoyable when you can sit back having prepared JUST AS HARD as you did on other years, but get to internally say.."Go play boys. Do your thing and I'm going to try to get out of the way". I'll let you and everybody else figure out which seasons fit into which category.

 

I don't know much other than both teams are well coached, knowing both and one being a close friend. Should be a good one in Greensburg.

I always thought that it was, but sure enough...it's flip flopped.

This Cow Bowl used to be played on Thursday nights and for a few years it was played on the campus of Campbellsville University. This is the first time in couple of years that Green Co gets to have their Bowl at Dragon stadium. The cow bells will be out in full effect.

Talent Level down at Green? Remember they have a sophomore class that has 6 players that played in the Kentucky/Tennessee All-Star game when in 8th grade. Furthermore dominated the Eagles 38-7 in Middle School. So we are saying that Downs, Bridgewater, Anderson, Taylor together were not as good as the Young kid is now. Green beat C-Ville for the first time just 8 seasons ago coming off a 2-28/3 year stretch with only 4 Seniors. I agree Campbellsville has worked hard and has out worked Green, but the talent never changes at Green. Look at Will Hodges track program WINS/WINS/WINS with average athletes, but he makes them great. I just have to disagree with the talent level. If the Jaggers kid would have been anywhere else but Green he would have never made it to the field until he was a Senior. Those guys down there use to put hours in the weightroom and it showed on the field and on the track.

You can disagree coach, but how many of those kids moved away that we're on that team?? Several. Look at the track program this coming season, and the fact that Hodge resigned, coaches don't get out when there is talent and I will be proven right this spring. Not the first time the former ball coach got out when there was a dip in talent, when talent goes back up in a few years see if he comes back. That isn't a secret in the 5th region, have heard that on several occasions. Those aren't coincidences. Not just at green. Brown at John Hardin, Armes at LaRue...etc. just part of it. Now Brown is back coaching at Etown...didnt retire long. I will also add that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, probably a smart move and every guy has the right not to suffer through tough years if he doesn't want to. Middle school all star games mean zilch...especially when several of the coaches were green co. coaches. I had several kids play on that team and they were not my best players, but could afford to go. Talent does change at small county schools to say differently is a homer mentality and a way for the former coach to stroke his ego. Jagger's was a stud...he would have started at 100 schools in the state to say different is to say that a 4.5 40 yd dash isn't welcome in other schools. Speed is a commodity that is not at green and isn't going to be there for a while. But enough about Green. Campbellsville is on an upswing and the Young kid is a stud and sought after by D1 schools with charlie strong stopping before he left for Texas. Locally nobody has a kid like him...nobody. Did they appeal the KHSAA to see if he could play? I hope to be able to see him play next week if I'm able to get down that way.

That group of sophomores had 3 kids in the all star game in the 8th grade. Brewer, Davis, Pierce. Davis and Brewer both were listed on the starting lineup vs LaRue according to the radio broadcast.

However, I wanna be clear that I'm not trying to knock at Green...at all. I'm a big 5th region fan and think highly of GC and the AD over there...in fact most of the GC folks i know are great people, and the guys I work with are nuts about the place. Good luck to Dragon nation on Friday.
