MLB Playoff Picture

I LOVE the American League playoff picture this year. Only way I'd watch more is if Minnesota wasn't ten shades of awful.

Read this morning that it's the first time the Orioles have had a 10 game lead in their division since 1979.

I love the Samardizjia trade and the Lester trade, and I think Dunn adds some of what Cespedes took with him, but to not address the back of the bully seems bizarre at this point. They are literally giving away games where the offense has given them a lead and the starting pitching has held the other team in check.

True. Mentioned it in another thread, but I think injuries, especially before rosters expanded, had a lot to do with that. Lowrie was out, now Doolittle is hurt. Vogt being banged up (they said he wouldn't catch the rest of the season weeks ago) hurt them because they had to use another slot to carry a backup catcher. Hopefully they have a plan and/or someone stashed away for a late run that they're going to give an expanded role in the bullpen. Whatever it is, I'm really starting to get worried.

Oakland got back on track tonight. This was the kind of game they needed. 18 hits... White Sox made a ton of errors... Lester was Lester... Donaldson went 5-for-6 with 5 straight hits.

Detroit and Kansas City are in a battle for first in their division and have their series listed above currently ongoing. There are 5 games between those 2, so hopefully (at least for me as an Oakland fan), they'll split the majority of those and keep the balance in the standings.

Agreed, this race is fun.

How great would it be to have the O's, A's, and Royals all win their divisions this year? Likely won't happen as the Royals can't hold off the Tigers, and the A's aren't catching the Angels. But, that would have been nice.

I can live with the O's, Tigers, and Angels as division winners. Give me the Royals and A's in the wildcard and I'll be happy however it all plays out.

And now Oakland is back to being the team we've seen for most of the past 20 or so games.

Oakland won the Seattle series and is now back in the driver's seat for the AL Wildcard. They lead the Royals by 1.5 games and the Mariners by 2.5 games. It looks like the A's will be in barring an epic collapse (97% chance of making the playoffs according to ESPN Insider). If the season ended today, they'd host the Royals in a one off.

The Giants and Pirates are currently tied for the NL Wildcard lead. The Brewers trail each by 1.5 games. The Braves suffered a disastrous sweep to the Rangers over the weekend and are effectively eliminated from playoff contention, sitting at 4 games back.

Did they get credit for 3 wins as well?

The braves threw in the towel. Glad I didn't waste my money on mlb.tv this year.

They're stupid. Freddie is on the hot seat IMO.

Gattis and BJ will be gone this offseason.

Sucks the season with Santana was wasted.

The Braves lost the two starters early, maybe even in spring training, but it's been the hitting that has sunk them. They've been an up-and-down team all year, with the exception of the last 3 weeks when thyy've just been a down team. Very disappointing. Who is the leader on this team? Is there one? I question how many players are maximizing their talent.

Pujols left tonight's game after doubling. Sportscenter is saying it was cramping, but looked like he grabbed at a hammy coming around 1st.
