Simon Kenton 2 Highlands 0 (Boys)

Was a very good game. First goal was on a through pass to an attacker. Slipped the ball past the keeper.

Second goal was an own goal. Probably didn't help that the conditions were a bit damp.

Over all I was very surprised at the intensity I saw from SK.

Congrats to SK! Who scored the goals?

I am betting that we will hear about how many D1 kids SK had on the pitch last night.

Race is on......who comments first.....Oldbird or Uk#1Fan?

I aim to please. :D

The Brids graduated a lot of talent and were bound to take a step back. I was just hoping it wasn't so dramatic. Hopefully the beloved Birds can regroup and right the ship.

SK has a very young team also!

I am not sure that Oldbird was saying they are young, just that they lost a lot of talent thru graduation and still are working things out.

Exactly how young is SK, I just looked at their roster and they have a total of 19 kids that are listed as either a Jr, or Sr.

From a soccer preview.

The local defending champions are Highlands in the Ninth Region and Bishop Brossart in the 10th Region. Simon Kenton fell two wins short of a state berth with a loss in the Eighth Region tournament.

Simon Kenton, defending 32nd District champion, has an uphill battle in its attempt to win the Eighth Region. The Pioneers lost more than a dozen seniors from a roster of 24. This year, they have eight seniors. District runner-up Walton-Verona, a 1-0 loser to the Pioneers in the final, lost five from a squad of 16. The Bearcats have four seniors, but the roster is bigger.

I will trust the numbers on the roster but the list I just looked at shows 12 Seniors, and 7 Juniors. I was trying to get some info from an insider, on how young they actually are and if they have any underclassmen that play a pivotal role.

I have no insight into this particular situation, but sometimes coaches don't update the roster from the previous year, such as removing players that are no longer playing, adding new ones, etc. If that's the case, the KHSAA default with remove last year's seniors and move all players up a grade.

Also, for some reason, sometimes kids come out their senior year, not having played the sport in the past. So, while they may be a senior, they are not a four year player and likely not experienced enough to be pivotal.

I thought the official KHSAA roster is the roster they are supposed turn in at the beginning of a match.

I was referring to the rosters that are available on the KHSAA website. I don't know if those are required to be turned in at the beginning of the match.

Regardless, it appears that SK's roster is up to date, as it includes freshmen on it.
