Shocked that the pioneers pulled it out over the Birds

Good win for the Pioneers. I'm sure that was a shock to the superiority syndrome up there in Ft. Thomas.

I am sure there is some head scratching going on in Ft. Thomas, I will be curious to see if they can break into the win column this week... maybe even more curious to see if they still receive a first place vote in the NKY Coaches Poll when it comes out.

Those are the active rosters at the beginning of the season that are required to be submitted to the KHSAA. KHSAA is enforcing that for all schools as well as logging stats. Obviously throughout the year those change from game to game depending on injuries, etc.

If you look at the past years' rosters, SK has lost 24 seniors over the past 2 years. Of the 12 current seniors... 5 are starters, 3 decided to "try soccer out", and the other 4 were not on the roster last year (which means as a junior if you're not dressing varsity, chances are you are not going to play much as a senior). The rest of the starters are made up of sophomores, juniors, and freshman.

Thanks unbiasedcoach.

I discovered last night that SK is not quite as young as what uk#1fan is making them out to be. SK did start a Freshman and a Sophomore against Cooper but the remaining starters were a pretty even mix of Juniors and Seniors.

I would agree. Rather than young I'd look at it as inexperienced (not in a negative way or making excuses). Of their current starters, 5 are returning from last year's roster (2 of which were out for most of the season due to injuries). With the depth they've had the past 2 years with that junior and senior class it didn't leave a lot of room to pull up underclassman to get that experience at the varsity level. I'd put Highlands in that category as well. Had decent depth last year that took up spots from underclassman. It's still early in the season, they'll be fine.

Agreed, I would classify it as inexperience at the Varsity level, mostly because of the depth that they had the past couple of seasons. I definitely think SK will be OK, they looked pretty good last night and I do not see anyone upsetting them in their district.

From the Cooper perspective, I was strictly looking at the age of the players, not their Varsity experience. Cooper is still very young, starting 2 Freshman, and 4 Sophomores, the good news is they are all gaining valuable experience and I have heard that the coaches have done a good job in helping all the underclassmen understand why they are no longer doing tunnels or snacks after their matches.

LOL!
