August 29, 201412 yr And just to be clear this includes sexual assault as well. Apples and oranges. Most domestic cases are simple misdemeanors, sexual assault is usually a serious felony. Three things stand out for me. One, the NFL got it wrong with Rice, two, the NFL is getting it wrong now making the penalties too severe in most cases because of their first mistake, and three I 100% see why the players want final decisions out of the commissioners hands on some matters of discipline.
August 29, 201412 yr It could take months to prove innocence or guilt, so what happens with the players that are under investigation? Or who accept plea deals?
August 29, 201412 yr Question, do you have to have just alleged DV or be charged with DV for this to take place?
August 29, 201412 yr Question, do you have to have just alleged DV or be charged with DV for this to take place? Both Rice and Big Ben were not convicted. Big Ben received the 6 game reduced to four and it was sexual assault allegations. Rice was 2 games DV no conviction. There have been others but I can't recall right now who they are. The NFL does their own investigation and can set the punishment according to the CBA (2011). I believe they'd like to wait, but sometimes that takes too long, but then again they take forever sometimes themselves. This is challenging because it always not black and white.
August 29, 201412 yr IMO, you cannot penalize someone to that degree based on allegations. Talk about lawsuits waiting to happen...
