At the same time, I don't think there's really the same gap between them as you and most others are seeing, at least not to the extent of "far and away the best team and not sure it's even close". That's fine, there's nothing wrong with it, and I'm one of the few people taking Johnson Central, but I'll still stick with them.

 

I was impressed by what they were able to do down in Rupp last season and thought they were the better team then. I know that since then, Johnson Central has lost Hall and Knott County Central has gained Combs and Cornett, but they've also lost Sammons.

 

Probably more of a question of what people like. Neither is really big or athletic in terms of the better teams in the State, and while Johnson Central isn't as sexy of a pick, I think they're physical enough, efficient in taking care of the ball (only 20 turnovers in the state tournament over 2 games last year), and have some things they could do to hurt KCC in a head-to-head game.

Knott won by about 30. I will say that it was JC's second game that day. Knott had to play again after that against Betsy Layne and beat them about 25.

 

I agree with you on summer ball. One never knows who isn't playing or how the mix comes together. I can tell you that Knox Central shot the lights out, led Knott all throughout the game and were still down about 9 with eight minutes to go. At that point Cam hit 3 after 3 and Evan took over inside to win the game by about 6. I was very impressed with the Knox kids.

I've heard a lot of really good things.

 

How did Marsee look? Have heard he's a load inside. Barger is a tough kid, two sport athlete, one of those types. Adams is a shooter/scorer. That's the low down that I've been given on Knox. Is that pretty accurate?

Knott Central only, IMO. Although, I'll have to see what Perry Central looks like before I can give a good opinion on them.

I'm usually not big on mountain teams, but I think Johnson Central, Knott County Central, Clay County, Perry County Central, and potentially Knox Central will all be in the discussion. Not saying ranked, just in the discussion.

You guys are no fun. Saying Knott County Central is going to be top 25 really isn't going out on a limb too far.

I am so excited about Trinity coming to Knott in late November for their jamboree. There will be some intensity you won't see again until tournament time. I can tell you that Cam, Evan, Simon, Jax, and Raymond are really close but they will all be ready to bring it. I'm publicizing this game to anyone that really likes outstanding basketball.

Should be an electric atmosphere too. I'd imagine KCC will pack the place out and that's a huge place to fill up.

Honest Question: am I really the only one with any love for Johnson Central? Not even talking about should be in the top 25, but even in the discussion.

 

The things that people are pointing to as being things that they like about Knott County Central, namely three consecutive trips to State and to a lesser extent, a solid core of older players, are things that you could say for Johnson Central as well.

 

Is there something I'm missing? Most time you see JC, they look like a really well coached team. They're one one of the bigger schools in their region. Had a good showing in Rupp last season. Three trips in three years too, so they know how to get there. Good football program, so that tells you that they've probably got some athletes. Last year, I thought JC had a lot of different kids they played last year who could do some different things to help them win. You don't see lots of teams who'll be looking to make their 4th straight trip to State or who seem to be the preseason favorites in their region flying under the radar, but could that be the case here?

 

I'm not trying to take anything away from Knott County Central, just trying to understand why there's such a gap between two teams who have a lot of similarities. You'll even hear people saying that they think this year's Johnson Central team won't be as talented as last season, but could possibly end up being better overall (than last year's version). If the point is that KCC is better 1-3 or has a guy in Justice who can get the ball where he wants it and get the shot he wants to take whereas JC needs to rely on being much more structured, then I'll buy into that. That said, I'm still not convinced that KCC will be definitively better 1-8 or 10. That's not to say that they will or they won't, just that I'm not sold yet with KCC having more new parts that haven't really played together as long.

JC can play with KCC, they actually matchup pretty well. JC would have problems with Justice, Knott will have issues with Salyer, and Gullet/Hall will be a nice matchup.

 

Knott is better 1-2, but JC is better 3-5.....just my opinion.
