The Trinity Shamrocks (0-1) host the Carmel Greyhounds (1-0) this Friday evening at Marshall Stadium. The kickoff set for 7:30PM. The Indiana 6A #1 Greyhounds won their season opener 14-7 over Hamilton Southeastern, ranked #6 in 6A in Indiana. Trinity fell to Tennessee’s number 1 ranked Ensworth Tigers 21-14 in Nashville. Former Trinity Head Coach Kevin Wright leads the Greyhounds.

In last week’s game, Carmel trailed 7-0 after the first quarter. The Greyhounds scored touchdowns on the ground in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and held on for the victory. Junior quarterback Michael Viktrup was the difference maker in the game. In his first varsity start at QB, Viktrup ran for 146 yards on 17 rushes. He also threw for 68 yards; completing 7 of 10 pass attempts. Viktrup scored the game winner on a 21-yard jaunt in the third quarter. Carmel’s Shakir Paschall scored the first Carmel touchdown on a 11-yard scamper in the second stanza. In all, the Greyhounds four-back attack accounted for 289 yards rushing.

Trinity’s defense will be called on to slow the Carmel running attack on Friday. Senior linebackers Brentton Irvin and Zach Berger will lead the defense. The front line rotation {Connor Foos(JR), Adam King (SR), DJ Johnson (SR), and Landon Corolla (SR)} played well as a unit. Juniors Vince Lococo and Damon Lowe also played well as linebackers in slowing Ensworth (70 yards on 35 rushing attempts) as well as holding Highlands to 6 yards rushing in their three quarter scrimmage the previous week.

The pass defense was slightly less successful this past Friday as Ensworth was able to complete 12 of 15 attempts for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Two of the bigger completions came after the Ensworth senior QB fumbled the ball and was able to pick the ball up while he maintained his composure. Trinity’s defense relaxed for a split second, allowing the Tigers QB to locate uncovered receivers.

The Shamrocks offense will be expected to control the ball with their traditional balance of run and pass plays and will depend heavily on the QB leadership. Senior Ryan Young and sophomore Larry Harper III will continue to battle for the starting nod. Senior Donald Brooks and junior Jalen Reed will need to expand their success in the running game. Junior wide receivers Dalton Jones, Rodjay Burns, and Connor Carrico will need to continue their outstanding efforts. Senior tight end Andrew DelVisco will continue his work as a safety valve for the quarterback. The offensive line, including junior Bryant Colvin, senior Justin Karem, and junior Michael Hiestand, must continue to improve for the Shamrocks offense to make positive strides.

Coach Bob Beatty and his staff are well aware that a total team effort will be needed by the Shamrocks to defeat the Greyhounds.

Trinity tidbits: Trinity leads the Carmel series 1-0, winning last year’s battle in Indiana 42-35. Trinity has not been shutout in 220 consecutive games dating to October 1998.

The annual Cross-Country Spaghetti Supper will be held in the cafeteria prior to the game. It remains an all-you-care-to-eat affair. Come taste the old world spaghetti sauce recipe prepared by Louis Mattei.

Great job THSR....very well done. Thanks for the insight and update.:ylsuper:

Sounds like T has a stout run d.

Back home Rocks roll by 10!

Very nice article. Thanks, THS.

I think Trinity is really good. They should have a very good season.

My understanding is Carmel runs their running attack very similar to duPont Manual. The Rocks have had difficulty getting outside to practice with the Heat Index soaring in Jefferson County. The freshmen host Carmel on Saturday while the JV team travels to Indiana to face the Greyhounds.

The rumor mill going around is that the Foos kid will just be playing offense line this friday? Isn't this his first year playing O-line? Are they hurting for O-lineman that bad? Is there any truth to this? If so why..... He was a beast at DE last year as a sophmore and should still fair well going from a 4-3 to a 3-4 Defense...IMO they should just leave him on the D-line why mess with a good thing. Either way expecting a good game from the Rocks this week....see you at the game.

Not yet. I plan on attending practice today if they get outside!

They already practiced 6-8am before school this morning to beat the heat
