August 16, 201412 yr Screw 40-0...we're going 46-0 this year haha! :sssh::clap: 48 don't forget the two preseason games.
August 16, 201412 yr Booker has nice form on his shot but they've not been falling for him too often. Probably freshman nerves. He's going to be a good one. He and Ulis are going to be fun to watch. This team's so deep it's ridiculous. And two 7 footers on the injured list and not in the lineup. Unbelievable size and depth.
August 16, 201412 yr Speaking from a pure talent standpoint, who on the DR team plays for UK? Garcia at the 3? Check. He's also an NBA player who played 18 minutes tonight. Eloy Vargas starts for this team and he was the 8th man on UK's national championship team in 2012. The win is good, the Bahamas are great, but please people, let's temper our expectations based on this. Cal wouldn't be playing these games and having them on ESPN if there were a chance we lose one and look bad and it were considered anything but a scrimmage. Look at the distribution of minutes across the teams. Notice anything? These weren't two teams going at each other's throats. These were two teams playing to get better. These guys are professionals, yes, but the only guy who has a career that would be considered "successful" for any of the 9 McDonald's All Americans on UK's roster is Francisco Garcia. Garica is a role player who does a ton of things to help his team win and has found his niche in the NBA, but he's stuck around exactly for the reasons I've mentioned, not because he's some overwhelming star. The Bahamas trip has been fun, I've enjoyed getting a sneak peak of the Cats on TV, etc., but it's asinine to treat today's game like we just beat Louisville, Florida, or a few other teams that we could end up facing this season when the games really count. Not trying to be Negative Nancy and we've looked as good as could be expected in the Bahamas, but that was kind of the point of the whole trip to begin with. If you believed the "we'd be lucky to win x amount of games there", then I'm not really sure what to say other than I hope you don't live and die by our success this season and have extremely high hopes based on scrimmage wins over a largely overmatched field.

He only played ahead of Polson, Beckham, Malone and Long. Maybe I misread what you were saying but, I don't think starts in front of WCS, DK or KAT.

No, meant that Eloy started for the Dominican Team, but couldn't start for his UK team or be higher than the 8th man. Thats why I'm not getting too wrapped up in UK beating the Dominican team, especially when everyone on both sides played a lot of minutes.
August 17, 201412 yr They are a top 30 team in the world. The Dominicans are really good. And Eloy Vargas is a very good professional player now.
August 17, 201412 yr The Dominicans may be relatively good now, but a top 30 basketball program in the world of FIBA isn't really the same as a top 15 college basketball team when you are down past the 20's. We're still talking about a Dominican team that, to the best of my knowledge, has never qualified for the Olympics and which didn't have some of their better players (even from the teams that failed to qualify) in guys like Al Horford, Trevor Ariza, Charlie Villanueva, etc. If Eloy Vargas or Jack Michael Martinez were that good, they'd be playing in a European league or the NBADL at least.
