SHA will have it's hands full replacing heralded graduates Merriweather and Ruffin, but the cupboard isn't completely empty because SHA has some young talent coming into the program that should help make the Valkyries competitive in the 7th region. One of the young players has the potential to be really good and should compete for a starting spot on the team. I've heard she is on many colleges lists to keep track of over the next 3 years.

Returning Senior Ashley Johnson will be relied on to bring this team together. In my view many of the upper classman are role and support players, which paves the way for younger players to get valuable playing time early in the year. Wouldn't be surprised to see some of the younger player earn starting positions by the end of the basketball season.

I don't think they will be the favorite to win the 7th, but should be in the hunt. SHA will still be challenged in the post position because of height and athleticism. On the other hand though they should be a very quick and fast team. I suspect they will get up and down the court this year to try and take advantage of this strength. Defense will play a huge role in the game plan this coming year.

Anyone have any news on Sacred Heart? Transfers, freshman, or out of state players?

Berger will be the best player Sacred Heart has as a freshmen.

If you mean best player on the team not just the best freshman, I think you maybe correct. She has tons of upside and will get better and better. I think she is close to 5' 10" now with very good guard skills, shoots the ball well, and sees the court extremely well. She is at times too selfless and makes passes when she should take the shot. She will be a starter on this team, but I wouldn't take that as SHA being weak because they are starting a freshman. SHA should be very competitive in the 7th region.

I heard that Berger tried out for the Premier team recently and did really well. Expect to hear that she will play in Atlanta with Ky Premier at the end of the month with Duvall and Boley. This kid is going to be really good.

Got to see her this summer in Louisville when we played against her and she is the real deal. Very composed and smart beyond her years. Going to be a real good one for Sacred Heart. I agree that she will be one if not there best player this year. Looking forward to seeing her this year as we open up at Sacred Heart.

Grace worked out with 20 of our top kids last week and is a very skilled player. Sacred Heart got a nice addition.

I heard Grace is improving and growing taller! Should be a great start to the year with the Highlands match up. With SHA having many new players move into the line up this year it should be an opportune time for a Blue bird victory on SHA's floor. I'm sure the Valkyries won't have it all together for the first game out of the gate.

The start of season is close at hand, while the girls have been progressing through pre-season conditioning workouts. Can't wait for it to start!

Coach Moir is ready to get things in motion with a good mix of returning veterans from last years squad. I don't think you replace Ruffin or Merriweather, but SHA should have some other girls that come in and make major contributions. Looking forward to a tough test right out of the gate taking on a tough Highland Blue birds team. Highlands played them tough last year at the Bluebirds gym.

SH is always good. I have heard the freshman is a stud. Can't wait to see her play! HHS should be a nice test. They only lost one senior and have 7 or their top 8 back. Wouldn't call them a state powerhouse, but still a pretty good team and measuring stick for SH. Love BBall season and love that these two teams get to meet early in the season. Always good to get challenged early so you can make adjustments as the season goes on. I think we've only won 1-2 of these matchups, but it is still a great game for the Birds to have on the schedule!

I think by the end of the year SHA will be a good team, but it wouldn't surprise me if Highlands comes in here to get a W. SHA has two experienced seniors, a couple of average Juniors, and 4 freshman that will get the PT. With that said I expect too many turnovers in the early part of the season which equates to losing games.

Coach Moir might decide to play experienced players more than the younger more talented players at the beginning of the year. We will see. In either case I think Highlands has a really good chance to win, but I expect a competitive game that will be fun to watch!

IMO...SH is a tough place to get a W. Be fun!

In case your interested there's a fantastic BBQ place a couple blocks north of SHA on Frankfort Ave called F.A.B.D. (Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot). They keep the smokers going 24/7 all year long.

Good joint to catch a meal before the game.
