So we know about Ray Rice punching his wife.

 

You may or may not remember former LSU/current Bengal RB Stephen Hill getting in trouble for a punch.

He nails an obviously drunk (had trouble standing up) frat boy from behind.

 

So from a totality perspective and from a perspective of what does it say about the person who threw the punch which person is worse in your mind?

 

Before answering, I ask you to get past the obvious initial thought. Think about the situation. Think about human nature. Think about the mindset.

 

Now tell me your vote.

Before choosing who the bigger loser is, do we know if Rice or Hill had been consuming alcohol before they threw their punches? Says the Hill punch was thrown outside of a bar, have to wonder if booze was a small factor.

I assumed it was a factor in both.

Then I would say the grown man slugging his wife is worse than the college kid sucker punching someone. I'll admit age is playing a factor here for me, but it does show weakness in both men. Or am I just suppose to focus on Rice being provoked and lacking restraint vs the nature of a sucker punch itself?

You can focus on what you think is the primary focal point. It's why I posed the question. We all rationalize differently.

I think I'd have to see the "inside the elevator" footage to be able to be ponder the difference.

Can't punch a woman, not close in my mind. Don't condone either, though.

Neither are good, but as he said you never punch a woman and especially your wife! Yes she was aggressive too, but he is a pro NFL football player I think he can hold his own. He could have prevented her from hitting him, but no reason to punch her. Neither punch should have been thrown, but Rice is older and should be more mature and it was a woman. Hill was a most likely drunk college student, and while that was still very wrong it still was not as bad as Rice's IMO.

My fault on the name. It's "Punk" in my mind.

I get the thinking that Rice's was worse.

 

I can, though , make the opposite argument.

 

Yes, it's TERRIBLE and uncalled for to strike a female especially your wife. But can we rationalize it/understand how it POSSIBLY happened? It wasn't premeditated. Story is he was struck by her. He reacted without thinking. In some people getting struck or having a punch thrown AUTOMATICALLY causes them to respond without thinking.

 

Hill: Premeditated. Unprovoked. Hit him while he wasn't looking. Did it in a group where he had support and approval.

 

I can't rationalize that even with alcohol. While not condoning Rice's punch I can SOMEWHAT understand it.

 

Only way I can rationalize Hill's punch is that he's a grade A punk/loser. No redeeming value. No values at all.

I'm not sure how anyone can rationalize hitting a woman.

Probably not. I'd never be in that situation so it's a completely pointless scenario.
