I agree. 170 lbs at the 7th and 8th grade level. That seems very low to me.

CYF's 5th and 6th grade teams did not have a league to play in last year. The GCYL allowed them to play a full schedule with in their league as a trial for the future. CYF played all of their games in Ohio and were not eligible for the playoffs. The GCYL liked the way that CYF conducted themselves on and off of the field. They offered to bring them into the league this year at the 5th and 6th grade level but also wanted CYF to bring the 7th and 8th grade teams also. It was an all or nothing type situation. It also opens the door for the CYF to form 3rd and 4th grade teams in the future. That is how it was explained to me when I asked why they changed leagues.

 

That is correct Punt. Another benefit to joining the GCYL is the fact that they allow public school kids to play on the same teams as parish kids. This was not permitted in the NKYMSFL. As some have mentioned, CCH always ends up getting some kids from public schools playing football their Frosh year. This way, if your a public school kid and know you are going to CCH and play football, you've got an option.

How would you describe it so far? Success? Failure? Something in between? And if you deem it a success how are you measuring that success?

 

I absolutely think it's been a success. Yes, numbers have come down a little starting last year, but then, it seems pretty apparent to me that numbers in youth football are down everywhere. Regardless, if the mission is to:

1) Develop talent

2) Do so in a way that the kids want to come back the next year

Then yes, it's been a success IMO.

The weight rule has resulted in a couple CCH kids not being able to play, they are playing in Boone County for now.
