Covington Catholic Middle School Football

Did they move both the 8th grade team and the 7th grade team to Ohio? And don't most Catholic grade schools in Ohio still have their own team for each grade school and not a combined team of multiple grade schools like CovCath does?

Any idea why that decision was made (and yes I realize the GCL is certainly a stronger league)? It just seems odd that they made this decision coming off what was probably their weakest middle school team in the 6 years they played in the NKMSAA. Last years team would have absolutely gotten hammered in the GCL.

You'll need to ask a CovCath person associated with the program. There were a lot of headscratchers associated with NKMSAA regarding this decision. I'm sure someone from CovCath will set us straight.

What is their schedule? Does CCH play any teams from KY or all Ohio schools?

Not in the NKMSAA.

Interesting that the GCL has weight limits on all players, I would have thought it would have been a RB weight limit.

Will CCH have to separate into parish only teams in 2015?

No, its up to what ever the diocese wants it to be. By high school team (which it is now).

This is all dependent on the insurance policy in which they carry for the league. There are various levels and a huge factor in that is determined by "weight limit" parameter.

Convince some players from those GCL schools to come to CovCath were they will start in High School, so they can finally beat Highlands. :sssh:

Gotcha, I was reading the GCYL meeting minutes and the way I read it was they had to structure and implement perished based teams next year.

If I remember correctly the Boone County league, which only has limits on lineman, pays about $10 per player.

Each policy can be written to terms so its hard to compare them. The CYW wrestling league charges $7.50 to cover each wrestler. I know we pay a pretty penny just to cover the state championships for 2 days of games.

If I recall the Munoz kid did not play football until he was a Frosh at Moeller because he always weighed too much.

I agree. 170 lbs at the 7th and 8th grade level. That seems very low to me.

CYF's 5th and 6th grade teams did not have a league to play in last year. The GCYL allowed them to play a full schedule with in their league as a trial for the future. CYF played all of their games in Ohio and were not eligible for the playoffs. The GCYL liked the way that CYF conducted themselves on and off of the field. They offered to bring them into the league this year at the 5th and 6th grade level but also wanted CYF to bring the 7th and 8th grade teams also. It was an all or nothing type situation. It also opens the door for the CYF to form 3rd and 4th grade teams in the future. That is how it was explained to me when I asked why they changed leagues.

I believe that the plan was to have 2 teams, each having 7th and 8th graders on them. The 2 teams would be split up as evenly as possible.
