How Do You Feel About Your Restaurant Service?

Featured Replies

Wow...interesting article. And I believe every word of it. And it's not like they were making things up...this was video taped proof with a 10 year span of comparison. Not sure how it's not believable when thats what the video shows. Now it might be a little premature to extrapolate from this evidence that EVERY day is like that...but I'm quite sure restaurants put up with things today that they didn't 10+ years ago.

I haven't read the article (yet), but I rarely complain about restaurant service (unless it is REALLY bad). Even then, I still give a reasonable tip (between 15 - 20%).

I only complain if it's really bad, but I also go out of my way to compliment to the owner/manager if it's really good. Trust me, if you have a genuine legit complaint, the owner/manager wants to hear it.

Tips are earned, not a right.

If service is horrible, I don't tip and I talk to the owner.

I can almost always tell if it is a kitchen issue or a server issue. I don't punish the server for the kitchen screwing up, I will tip the server appropriately in this case.

Poor service but not horrible equals 10%

Adequate service equals adequate tip typically for me that's 15-18%

Excellent service equals excellent tip. Typically 22-25% and a compliment to the owner. I will also remember the server's name and ask for them when I come back.

Give this a read. I know I'm occasionally guilty of a few of these things, but holy cow, it's eye-opening.

OK..everything I ever suspected about my IT department was just substantiated. I got this when I clicked on the link.

Flippin' flappin' donkey ears!

Me too. 20% of the people sent their food back too? A lot of those numbers seemed exaggerated.

I worked in restaurants for years. And I eat out in a lot of restaurants now. Based on my nosy observations of the room around me, it's not exaggerated at all.

The talking on the cellphone thing has been a problem since the advent of the cell phone. I remember waiting tables back then. I'd get seated a table, and the patron would be on their cellphone and shoo me away. Well, during a busy lunch period I could get double or triple seated. Yep...you guessed it...little to no tip from the chick on her cell phone too busy to order when I approached as I had been trained. Not my fault you didn't order when I was there. I had 6-8 other tables usually and it takes time to get back around.

I'll take your word for it. I go out to eat and drink all the time, and granted that's a lot different than being on the other side, but I just never see stuff going on at that level. I'm the type who orders a couple of drinks and takes their time and I can't remember the last time I've had poor or horribly slow service.

It does seem to be the same people who always have poor service or food...

I think that your expectations are reasonable. There are some VERY, VERY unreasonable people out there. Having been in Hotels and Restaurants for over 25 years, I could eat up some server space with examples.
