Bluegrass State Games

For the record, Glyde I accomplished exactly what I wanted and that is getting people discussing KY volleyball. And thank you all for your comments. As far as who will win I will be rooting for in my opinion one of the dark horse teams to come out of nowhere and surprise everybody to win it all. But to answer your question as to who could unseat Ryle as defending champs is hard to say but with a half dozen of last years state tournament contenders and a number of unknown factors I think it could be a very exciting tournament as well a fun year for girls volleyball.

P.S. And if Ryle does win it all than I will be no less happy for those girls then I would if my dark horse team wins it since it would only help to emphasize that NKY is the place to be for top volleyball talent.

Good luck to all this weekend.

I agree with all that except there's absolutely no denying the top volleyball talent is in Louisville. NKY 2nd. Been that way for 20 years.

No upsets after Friday's pool play, as expected. Play continues Saturday. Sticking with Ryle as my pick. Held opponents to single digits on Friday.

Where is this tourney played?

KBA and other local gyms with the number of teams.

NKY teams are doing well. Camels, Brossart and Scott undefeated so far. Play their last pool game at 1:00 today. Ryle and Cooper at different gym so I have no info on them.

Ryle won in 2 sets against Christian Academy sending them to gold. Cooper lost 17-15 in 3rd set against Dunbar to go to silver. Awesome match by both teams. I assumed Dunbar wouldn't be as dominant as last year, but honestly, they look even better than last year. Ve

Camels lost in their final game in 3 sets to Louisville Male to send the Camels to the silver bracket. Very good game. Scott also lost their last game (not sure who they lost to) and Brossart won all of their games to advance to the gold bracket.

My top 4 are Ryle, Cooper, CAL, Henry Clay.

You are only 2 for 4. Cooper, CAL both eliminated from contention.

look for Ryle to win this, but don't be surprised to see Henry Clay, Lou. Eastern, and McCracken County in the running. Also, don't be suprised by dark horses Cooper or Dunbar.

You got 4 of 6 named in the Championship bracket, a decent %. Of course i'm 100% since I only picked Ryle.

So who all made the Gold Bracket then?

Honestly, the pools were severely messed up. Teams like Bishop Brossart and Raceland made the gold bracket when good teams were sent to silver. Teams that got 2nd in Friday pools ended up in easier Saturday pools. The tournament format/seeding needs to change for the future.

teams were not sent anywhere they needed to earn their spot and they did not. Brossart went 5-0 in pool play and only lose 1 game in 5 matches. They TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS and earned their way into the gold bracket. Sorry you don't like it but that was the draw they got and they took advantage of it. They beat one team that had a record of 33-6 last year so they we not play total losers. If you would have watched them they played VERY hard and scrapped for every point and earned their way.

Sorry you did not get the results you wanted from this tournament but BBHS played hard and had a great showing for the team they put on the floor.

Good luck to all in the upcoming season.

You can't use someone's record as a determination of skill. Pikeville is in arguably one of the worst regions in the state and played no one worth anything (Losses to Allen Central x2, Betsy Lane, West Jessamine, East Ridge). I will give you credit that Bishop Brossart looks a lot better than last year but you cannot deny the fact that had you and other teams been in a different pool with better teams, you would not have seen that same pool outcome. Cooper lost to Dunbar 17-15 in the 3rd set of Saturday's pool play and now Dunbar is in the finals of Gold. Still think yesterday's pool was fair?

"Teams like Bishop brossart and Raceland" ouch! What's that even supposed to mean? Our girls work hard all year round too! They played their hearts out this weekend! They should be very proud of the outcome. Please remember our girls read these posts too! Good Job this weekend Lady Mustangs!
