July 16, 201412 yr "I firmly believe it doesn't take any talent to play hard." I say something like this to my players all the time. "It doesn't take talent to play hard."
July 16, 201412 yr I guess I'll be the naysayer I don't get this farewell tour. They are treating Jeter like he is Jordan or Gretzky and I don't buy it. He was the face of baseball during his generation. 3408 hits, Rookie of the Year Award, 14 All Star Games, a World Series MVP and 5 World Series Rings--I'd say he deserves it. And I'm a Red Sox fan.

And I'm a Red Sox fan. I'm a Jeter hater have no problem saying it. I've always thought he was very good player but also his greatness was blown out of proportion. He was never close to the best player in the league , he was never the best player at his position in the league , and he was an average glove in the field . Very good hitter without power. Heck he wasn't even the best player on that Yankee dynasty . I think he a great player, Hall of famer but I don't think he deserves to be treated like he should be on the Mount Rushmore of baseball. Now his off the field resume makes him a legend and an all time great. I'll celebrate that.

The ridiculous relay vs Oakland. The HR in the ALCS to tie the game. Those are the things I'll remember. They came at HUGE moments in the season or postseason.
July 16, 201412 yr The dude is first ballot H of F. Did it all in New York under the spotlight . Not one false step. Will end up 6th all-time in hits., had some Gold Gloves. Oh , and five rings.
July 16, 201412 yr Anyone with 3,000 is an absolute legend as far as I'm concerned. A benchmark far greater than any homerun number. I'll grant any detractors that he has long been over-praised defensively. But the total picture is absolutely outstanding. As a guy who hates the Yankees, I'll be glad to see the last of him. As a fan of the game, I'm going to miss the heck out of Derek Jeter.
