I think the only reason they were able to keep irving is because he knew if he stayed that they would have a shot at james. If james was not a free agent this year I bet they wouldnt have been able to keep him.

If james was not a free agent this year I bet they wouldnt have been able to keep him. So Kyrie had faith in the front office to get the job done- again seizing opportunity. It is what it is.

This is a different GM from Danny Ferry, however. David Griffin did get Kyrie extended and landed King James. If he gets Love, what are we talking about other than taking advantage of opportunities? FWIW, Griffin has already put more talent and potential around James than Ferry ever did. JMO.

In my mind, Wade and Riley put the Big 3 together and convinced LeBron to come there. LeBron had no reason to go to Miami until Wade and Riley starting putting the pieces together. I will give Cleveland some credit for keeping Irving around. For Cleveland, it's about the "hometown" draw for LeBron. You could argue Cleveland actually handled it very poorly (i.e. Gilbert's letter) and despite all of that the "hometown" draw was just too much. Cleveland did clear the cap space, but even an owner as incompetent as Sterling would have been smart enough to realize that had to happen.
