Are Local Police Departments and the Obama Administration monitoring cellphones?

I go back and forth, back and forth on this issue. On the one hand, I don't have anything to hide, so I don't really feel it's a concern. On the other hand, even though I don't have anything to hide, I don't like the premise, and it makes me uncomfortable.

I'm in the 100% category.

I guess they install a chip in the Obama-phone prior to giving them away.

Now that everything is digital in cell/mobile technology its not hard to intercept/hack/spoof anything. This is especially true of a government with unlimited access to technology and monies. But really almost any entity can acquire the technology. Spoofing a tower is not really that hard.

Everyone should be careful what they have on their cellphone - passwords to bank accounts, credit card information pre-stored, etc. Nothing is completely secure, its more a matter of hard someone wants the information or data or digital voice conversation.

In your opinion, just as things are easy to track now, are there also counter measures being developed at the same pace which make communications and data easier to conceal or is the possibility of it being intercepted just an inevitable consequence of use?

I feel like the Controversial Issues thread title should be changed to "Negative Police Issues" :lol2:

But then wouldn't people who wanted to discuss the Redskins/Indian mascot and hot-button religious issues be a little confused, like maybe at least for a second or two?

Just put it in the nfl threaf

I am proud to be in the Benjamin Franklin camp on this issue.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Benjamin Franklin

There are those in this country who are willing to create a perpetual series of crises to rob us of our liberty. It is amazes me to see how many people are willing to vote such people into office.

Without a warrant in hand, police departments and federal agencies have no more right to eavesdrop on other American citizens' conversations than I do. As yourself if you would be alright with your worst enemy or a Nigerian scam artist listening to your private conversations because in many countries, law enforcement agencies have become their citizens' worst enemies.

Freedoms need to be exercised to remain strong and healthy.
