Because Owsley is a member of our district, IMO. And theres a huge difference between Owsley and Riverside.

Yea Rich had only 1 point in the first he missed 5 in close when he was open. Tyler came out over enthused and play overly aggressive on the offensive end settled down in the second half and scored most every time he caught in the paint. Dixon is a great player and IMO top 3 in the region. But he is not a great post defender and he would tell you that himself. It is not his natural position. I mean nothing negative about his game. Tyler Rich couldn't stop Blake Christopher, Tyler doesn't play great point defense just not his natural position. Fetters picked up the slack for Rich and helped Lee pulll out a tough win. I know it is possible to meet Estill againbut I feel sorry for whoever draws Estill. These guys play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Estill is a class act and I wish all you guys the best in the region. Hope you draw JBS and stomp them.

I have to hand it to everyone in Beatyville. They are just a class act bunch of people. We get a bad rep up here in the mountains for being a sterotypical "redneck" with that same attitude - but man - your fans were compeletely respectable.

 

I heard no offensive chants or seen any signs of a negative content on either side. It was all about seeing a good game played by two of the regions best. And I think we all got what we came for.:thumb:

Rich didn't score a lot, Lee Co missed a bunch of threes (only hit 2 or so) and they still won the game. Team defense won this game and I think that Caleb Fetters hurt the Engineers at both ends of the floor; scoring on penetrations and put-backs, rebounding, blocking shots......

 

Kenny Brandenburg 'refused to lose' and made some incredible shots when Lee was struggling on offense in the second half.

 

Dixon and Christopher made some incredible shots of their own and Reece shot the lights out from the arc. I'm glad that Dixon's season didn't end due to the missed free throw.

 

Good luck Estill - railroad 'em in Hindman next week and if you beat them pesky Cru-saders before we do tell 'em that Lee Co sent you.

I kind of agree about MVP award, except that I think Billy Joe Hearn Award is based on entire season rather than just tournament, but someone correct me if wrong. If so Rich is deserving. The game was true defensive struggle, and Caleb Fetters is one of best defensive players I have ever seen, and was rewarded with 56th defensive player of year award. As far as Tourney MVP, I would have gone with Dixon. He is big, strong, can really handle the ball, score (inside or out), and rebound. I like his play even better than region POY winner Gilbert. He has better attitude, and is much more team oriented.

 

Ken Brandeburg also played excellent tournament, and will only be better next year.

 

Also, let me commend folks that ran the tournament this year. Huge crowds, but traffic control and hospitality top-notch. Excellent sportsmanship from teams and fans. And I love that train whistle from Estill County band.

Great win for the Bobcats and an even better game from both teams. I would not be surprised to see them meet again this year. Not predicting that but I wouldn't be shocked if it happened. 2 great coaches and a fine group of young men. There could possibly be some great first round matchups in the 14th! I guess we will know today at 2.

I would really love these two teams lock horns one last time.

 

Each game has been a classic with Lee County just edging the Engineers out each time - I really wish the Bobcats the best of luck as I respect them a lot. - Hope we can both get to that regional final.

Lee has to play Owsley twice, as this district seeds (apparently something JBS would know little about ) and then Lee played Owsley in the all A after Owsley advanced by beating JBS, and Lee played Owsley a fourth time in the district tournament. Don't know why I'm explaining this.... I may do better to write it in Chinese.:jump:

 

Anyway, great game by both teams. I believe Tyler Rich deserved MVP. He earned it and while he may have had an off shooting night, Tyler does a lot more on and off the floor than people realize. He is a great motivator and one down night cannot negate all the nights (including the first round game at Owsley) that he hits his shots and is one of the better players on the floor. Rich also draws defenders inside to allow for open threes.

 

Overall, I'm proud of my Bobcats! This team doesn't seem to get down or intimidated and seems to play with thier heads almost all the time. I don't know what it is about Coach Wright that sticks in people's crawl, I personally love him and love his coaching style! I enjoy the enthusiasm he brings to the game and how he fires up his players, but to each his own. Guess I'm just that old school Bobby Knight/Rick Pitino fire brand kinda fan!

 

That being said, I can't help but love the heart and total determination that this Estill team puts forth, especially Clint Dixon who is, IMO, one of the top three players in the region! The Engineers should hold their head high and be congratulated on a game well played!

 

I for one was glad that there weren't any pesky signs ;) ;) The fans were great, the Lee Co. gym was Rockin' almost the entire game!!!! I couldn't help but think while I was there that this is what basketball is all about! Great game and sportsmanship by everyone. Good luck against JBS Estill. I agree Professor. Sometimes, IMO, people tend to only look at points scored to judge a player's ability and there are a lot of things other than score a player can do. To take nothing away from Fetters, he is one great player, I just believe Tyler has a leadership quality on the floor that sometimes goes unnoticed (a la Chuck Hayes @ UK).

Thanks for correction Professor. I have been on committee that picked all tournament team a couple of times, and it is HARD not to let regular season play affect your choices. Rich deseved award, I don't think Lee beats Estill without him.

I like the train music too. That's different....pretty cool. The Estill superintendent told me the band director came up with that a few years ago. They do it somehow with a keyboard. The Silver Grove Big Trains might want to check out the Engineer's band to have something similar.

The train music has been around for a few years now - and its really what makes an Estill game - an Estill game. From the way the bell (which is frequently played by the band director) to the drums, etc....it really is my favorite intro....and would be if I wasnt speaking with any bias.

 

I also liked thunderstruck by Lee County.
