9. Kentucky treasurer “Honest Dick” Tate, at least, provided us with a wee bit of historical irony, absconding in 1888 with a cool quarter million from the state treasury. -Good to see politicians haven't changed much

14. Richmond, KY could have been a contender—in fact, it was almost chosen to be the nation's capital, but it lost out to Washington, D.C. due to lack of nearby seaports. -Really, anybody have any info on this

11. To this day, Kentucky’s governors must swear an oath before taking office that they have never fought a duel with deadly weapons.

More than that. I had to take the same oath in order to be admitted to the state bar. Do all officers of the commonwealth have to take a similar oath?

I know when my son got swore in as a Deputy Sheriff he had the same oath. Lady in our Sunday School class said she took that oath when she got her license 40 or so years ago to be a cosmotologist/hair dresser as well.

Well, true

I thought it was Richmond, VA that was almost chosen as the capital?

That is probably closer to the mark, but was probably never very likely. Although, it was the capitol of the Confederate States of America. :lol2:

The capitol was in New York when Hamilton negotiated the federal government's assumption of state debts in exchange for moving the capitol closer to the "middle" of the country, which is part of why they split it between Virginia and Maryland.
