All I said was, STATIStICALLY, he was the best offensive player in NKY last season, and he was. I didn't suggest he was anything else. I suppose, by your standards, the game in which Evan O'Hara scored six goals against Calvary shouldn't count. Or, the the game in which CCH tied Summit last year, which featured a freshman field player, who had not played a minute in goal before that game because of a broken nose to the starter. Maybe those goals shouldn't count.

 

CCH is a deep and talented team and plays a quality schedule, no question about it. But when you play in what is, without question, the weakest district in NKY, you can do that. Holmes frequently fields a co-ed team. A senior at Latin is a freshman or sophomore anywhere else and Holy Cross gave up more gals than Cooper. CCH is all but assured a spot in the regional tournament, before a game is played.

Well it should be a good game August 21st at Cooper. Sounds like Cooper has upgraded their team, so maybe it will be a good test for CCH. Let's hope Cooper made some improvements to their field. Which was, without a doubt, the worst field CCH has played on the last two years.

I hope you're right about the field, although I doubt it. The game will be early in the season, so hopefully it won't be as bad as it can be.

Not sure about improvements to the field, turf is not coming in the near future either. I did check on the Cooper site and the first home Football game is 8/22 so at least the soccer match with CCH is the day before. This will not ensure a good playing field but at least it will be better than if the match was later in the season.

I'm sorry to start this so early, but I hate when statements like this are made.....just quickly peeking at the "stats", I see 18 of Ross' goals were against St. Francis (8), Holy Cross (2), Villa (4), Scott without Treadway and their best defender (4) .....

 

I'm not saying he isn't talented, but strength of schedule should be a major factor.......One goal against a Lex Cath, Trinity, Elder, etc is worth 5 or 6 against Villa (sorry Villa.).......

 

So best "offensive player statistically" really should be measured against strength of schedule. If you weight the goals the same, you really need to deduct points when he doesn't score against good opponents......

 

You can't quote number of goals scored without looking at wins and losses.......Score 1000 goals, but if you do that in only 6 wins, then you were really quite ineffective.

While Germany scored some very nice goals............and Brazil's defending was horrendous.........none of the goals are worth anything because Brazil's goalkeeper is past his prime and plays in MLS these days. Just like the goals that CCH scored against two time defending Ohio state champ Summit Country Day were not worth anything because they had a freshman in goal........because we all know goals are the fault of the keeper.

I did not say the players weren't good.......Actually, they are extremely talented.....What I said was that to say one player was the best offensive player in NKY (statistically or not) isn't fair unless you consider strength of opponents......

 

I think Redcard kind of proved my point when he/she pointed out the Holmes and Latin team details. CCH has to play them in the districts, but doesn't schedule them ....or teams of their caliber....during the season, so I would actually throw those figures out if considering who is BEST. Just saying that I would probably throw out 12 or so goals for the player in question....for the same reason....IF I were considering who is best.

I recently went to the KHSAA web site to compare, what I consider to be, two very exceptional soccer players in NKY during the 2013 season. I'll refer to these players as Player A and Player B.

 

Player A played on better team and had a more difficult overall schedule. Player A scored 30 goals and had 8 assists for the season.

 

Player B played on a weaker team with a weaker overall schedule. Player B scored 31 goals and had 16 assists for the season.

 

Players A and B did however play 12 games against 11 common opponents. Player A scored 15 goals and had 2 assists in those contests.

 

Player B scored 13 goals and had 8 assists those contests. They both performed similarly well against common opponents. Neither of these players

picked their schedules, they both just went out and played to the best of their abilities, regardless of who their opponent was. and they both had exceptional years.

 

One of these players was recently slammed on this site and referred to as " a very ineffective scorer " based on some pseudo scientific poppycock that a poster created in his own mind. The other was Player of the Year. I just got on the internet to look at the facts and came to the conclusion that they were both exceptional players.

 

Two exceptional players, who BOTH deserve any and all accolades have received

Based on this formula, and your unbiased thinking, I believe we might actually be able to determine who is statistically the best player(s) in NKY. This would not be fool-proof, but it might warrant some consideration. :idunno:

 

If you are LUCKY enough to score a goal(s) against CCH you would automatically be placed on the "First Team", a blind draw would then determine who was actually numero-uno. This process assumes that no one player would be fortunate enough to score more than a goal against CCH.

 

The players that record an assist(s) against CCH would make up the Honorable Mention list.

Both players deserve accolades and I think I mentioned that both were very talented, top level players.....

 

I hesitate to bring this up, but comparing the two players is great for the two players, but would they still be there if everyone played the same schedule? Possibly, probably, but.......Put the NCC seniors, CCH strikers, St Henry's, etc, up against St Francis twice and Villa, Holmes, Latin, etc and their numbers go way up...........Put Treadway up against those teams and he possibly doubles the number of goals he has. We will never know because the schedules never will be the same.

They return Zane Ross, who, statistically was NKY's best offensive player. Other than a healthy Luke Treadway, that probably won't change"
