Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from South Western. Remember, please be constructive.

The addition of transfer Payton Gover will be a big plus for the Warriors, and if they can get the big Nigerian kid eligible they should be right with Wayne Co. as favorites to win the 12th..

What is his name? I heard they were getting him but never got his name.

David is all I've heard. Don't know if it is

his first name or last name..

I've seen the African kid play. If he becomes part of that team, I think they almost become co-favorites with Wayne. That said, Wayne seems to have SW's number - over and over and over. And they are two time champs with virtually everyone back.

Gover will help. Gaskin is still a tough match-up due to his strength. Fitzgerald and Butt will be freshmen but are much better than your typical freshmen. If the chemistry works, this team will be a force to be reckoned with - especially if the African kid becomes eligible.

Sure makes for a strong district!

Coach Wright seems to have a lot of connections abroad....

Southwestern will be a force in the 12th Region next season with the addition of Gover and the foreign kid (if he is ruled eligible). Don't forget about Sr. Adam Isaacs. He and Gaskins will be the the leaders of this young team.

IIRC, he does a lot of mission work. I've also heard that he or someone close has involvement with some international camps/event type things.

I thought that the rumors last year were that the administration at Southwestern wasn't really happy with the direction of the program in regards to transfers, and both Kapinga and Collier had ended up leaving. Guess there wasn't as much validity to that as it seemed and/or something has changed since.

Any details on the student from Nigeria? How big is he and what grade is he?

I'm told it's the kid that played in the AAU state tournament with Kentucky Elite's 16U. And that he's a 2016. I'd say he's a good 6'7" to 6'8."

I heard the kid's father may become an assistant coach.

Just seems like Steve Wright always has players fall into his lap right when he needs them. He's still one of the best coaches in the state IMO. I know when I played we had some wars with South Laurel. SW will have a very good team but losing a player the caliber of Justin Edwards will hurt

The Nigerian's father? I don't think his parents are moving here. I'm sure he was brought to SWHS by the same AAU coach that brought in Kapinga. Where did "David" play high school ball last year?

No clue. I watched him play during the KBA State Tourney but didn't know it was him. Just found out his name when I asked on here.

Even without any additions, I expected them to be to be contenders in the region and ranked in the state. It seems like they have a very strong core of younger players.
