a couple years back he had a very similar experience. They put him over on a practice field while the others were working out with the main group. They didn't even realize he was there and when they asked him

Make a long story short, many of those big college camps already know who they want to see before the start of the camp, the others that show up are just money to them for the most part.

 

In the end the UK staff was let go and the new staff came in and guess who was #1 on their list? Drew had already marked UK off his list and I think most people

Had him going to SC but things changed and now Drew is at UK.

 

Don't let the OSU camp get you discouraged. As was already mentioned all he needs is 1 offer and then he can prove the doubters all wrong.

Just came back from the OSU camp. The camp staff segregated campers into an elite group that they felt merited evaluation, and everybody else, who basically just got a workout. My kid went 11-0 in one on ones and got no recognition or exposure. I'm getting ready to go Postal!

I understand that and expect that from a host school that is B10, SEC or B12. But to have the guest coaches chatting on the sidelines with themselves while you kid is busting his butt is another thing entirely,

Sometimes camps can be eye openers. One year I took 5 seniors to be to Ohio State camp. All of these 5 kids really thought they were D1 kids. They were really good high school players with decent speed but not on that level. We made the 8.5 hour trip hearing how they were going to run 4.5's and such. Well once we got into the camp and my kids started to see other kids with their knuckles dragging the ground and looking like Greek Gods a little realization started to kick in. Now it was time for the 40's which were lazered time. Many feelings were hurt when these 4.5 forty's turned into 4.8 and 4.9's. Our fastest time was 4.7 flat by our fastest kid. On the way back conversation turned from playing for Ohio St to playing for Austin Pea.

Don't get it twisted. It is very fun if you are one of the elite players those coaches need to keep their big money jobs. If you aren't one of those players, you are just part of the camp gimmick to generate money for that schools GA's.

It's all about getting the right fit. If Ohio State doesn't work out then there are plently of other options out there. I would say at that size 6'5" and 310 lbs.I would work as much as possible on footwork and agility. A 40 time for offensive lineman really isn't a hugh factor at most locations, some schools like Ohio State it may be, but the shuttle run and good footwork are critical to get interest from college level coaches. Be selective at which schools you think the coaches would have an interest unless you just want you son to have the experience of a large school camp. (Which is pretty cool to see how he does against other players).

I feel your pain here. I have experienced it first hand and the learning curve was great.

Baby face will not cause a kid to be overlooked. Those guys wouldn't have jobs if that were the case. As someone said, youth is an asset as they can project out the curve as a player matures.
