I find it comical that Elder and Cincy St. X have said "thanks but no thanks." Hilarious.

 

Their people complain to anyone who will listen about how hard it is for them to schedule because no one will play them. They were it on their sleeve, for crying out loud.

 

For the GCL to "duck" you is a testament to how good your program is.

Not really think about it, if your a non district 6A team, knowing that more than likely the state title goes through Trinity, why play them in the regular season, why risk the playbook, game plan, or injuries, when you more than likely will have to play them again.

All the 6A schools were offered financial incentives to play home and home and opted not to play. I am glad CovCath is on the way back. Maybe someday. I understand you all still have a fight to get lights installed.

I don't think the Cincinnati teams were ducking Trinity. Here are Elder's and Cincy St. X's 2013 seasons. They were not playing light teams. C St. X ended up 5-5 but still in the top 100 of MaxPreps until the last couple polls. Elder was up there too. Trinity was in the low 200s, to my great surprise (that they weren’t lower).

The only Cincinnati Catholic that played some lightweights was Moeller: CovCath, Ontario St. Michael's, & Trinity. But I think the CovCath game was a friendship game, since Moeller Coach Rodenberg formerly coached at CovCath & took them to their most recent state championship (2006). The St. Michael game, a track meet for Moeller, may have had to do with an affinity between the 2 schools plus a chance for Moeller to mentor St. Michael's in American football. Moeller & Trinity are very close too; they collaborate & share information about everything from fundraising, academic programs, student programs, etc. For that matter, T & M join with C St. X, Elder, Indy Cathedral, & Brentwood Academy & Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville to do the same thing.

 

Elder & Cincy St. X may not have scheduled us because they wanted to play up, knowing we'd be mediocre in 2013. Probably, though, both teams wanted to play other good teams.

Interesting stuff. Do they use a gate split formula of some kind to pay promoter and opposing team, and if so, what is it?

 

Anybody able to provide any insight on this?

My educated guess is flat fee to the school and to the promoter.

Basically, Trinity had to pay a third party to find two opponents-one from Florida and one from Pennsylvania. The GCL members, with Moeller the only exception, have told Trinity thanks, but no thanks. They cannot afford the potential loss as long as Harbin system rules the roost in Ohio.

At 0-5 all-time, it is easy to see why Scott County is not interested. The same goes for the northern Kentucky teams. So, Trinity will continue to use a "head-hunter" or promoter to find games for the next several seasons-the Don King of high school football.

Personally, I think it would be good for both schools to lock T into a continuing home and home series if it so hard for all involved to schedule. X, in particular, has played some brutal schedules in the recent past. I think it ended up hurting them more than helping them, and they may now schedule a little smarter.

 

Elder schedules plenty of difficult opponents, but I do think their schedule often includes some softballs. You pointed out that Moeller's may as well, and that's a fair point.

The Cincy teams never had a problem playing us when they were beating us into the ground. Now that we have had the better of them lately, they don't want to play anymore. Rationalize that.

For those of you not familiar with Cincy football, the boys at St. X and T can't hold a candle to the arrogance and bravado of the GCL guys, primarily Mo and Elder. Don't get me wrong, tons of respect for those guys. They play some great football. They'll also remind you of it EVERY chance they get...maybe more so than any fanbase except FTH.
