The game was horribly called. I am not saying that that is why Wolfe lost but this game was just rancid. There was somewhere around 55 fouls called in this game. Unheard of in a district championship. I really thought that the kida never got to play this game out because every few seconds there was a whistle. To bad, made for a disappointing game. From what I saw Gilbert didnt throw a punch he pushed a kid. He was on the floor fighting for possesion when the whistle was blown. A few seconds after that a JC player prectically jumper on his back while he was down and he pushed him off. It wasnt a punch but even I must admit that I was Dissappointed tonight in Gilbert. He really let his emotions take too much control in this one. I would've liked to see these to teams get to play, without the refs taking center stage.

I would have to agree. Usually there is a lead ref that sort of controls the organization of things, but not tonight. And I agree, there wasn't any fight or punching. One T was called on each team on two different occasions for pushing. Jackson City had more fouls called on them but the real killers came against Wolfe in the last quarter. I bet Gilbert picked up his last 3 in a matter of 2 minutes! That, and Stamper fouling out sealed their fate. All of the kids played hard and it was important to them even though they both move on.

A couple of other things I'd just like to add. I'd just like to recognize and congradulate the coaching staff at JC, Kyle Lively, Ryan Turner, and John Couch. These men have done a fine job with this team this year and I feal that the players respect and look up to these guys.

 

Several of Breathitt's fans, players, coaches ect.. were there helping Jackson cheer on their team and I'd like to say thanks :thumb: and that was a great show of sportsmanship for all.

 

Also, I was pleased with the leadership that our Seniors Kyle Howard, Jordan Fugate, and Chase Thompson showed out there on the floor. When things got hostile, these young men stepped up and helped the younger players control their emotions along with keeping their cool themselves. Also when the ball was in play, these boys controlled the ball well and the tempo of the game. Good job boys, way to be Team Captains. Play tough in the Region Tigers and we'll meet you in Knott County! Congradulations once again to all!

From where I was sitting it did look like a thrown punch, and I was watching pretty close, but the refs didn't put anyone out so maybe it was just my perception. Sorry about that. I've never saw Gilbert lose control like that before either.

Agreed! Great game by the Tigers, they kept it together when it mattered! Everyone in the 14'th better be watching out for Jackson City.....They are for real!

I agree with "most" everything you said, butt..... Fugate blatently shoved a kid and tried to initiate a fight. He received a T and could have been suspended for a game by some refs. So yes, the other two were calming factors but not Fugate. He played a heck of a game, don't get me wroong but he has to control himself better.

Way to go tigers! Professor, when do we get those burgers at White Flash? I can usually go for about ten of them. Wife won't get around me for a week.

I wonder if the tape showed a punch being thrown and if it did I wonder if Jackson City sends it to the KHSAA, would Cody be suspended for a game or is it only if the referee declares a punch?

Hate to hear that Gilbert lost his cool. It kills good players to get in their head. Now you have to wonder how this will affect him in the regional tournament. Opposing fans and players will probably jump on this for strategy.

From what I saw and from what I heard from other people, the player Fugate shoved was saying some pretty vulgar things to him. To me, it looked like he tried to walk away and the player kept saying things to him and then Fugate said something back. Then the player got right up in his face and that's when Fugate shoved him. So I don't think he was trying to initiate a fight, just to get that player out of his face. I agree with you that he shouldn't have shoved him, but I think if you get any other player in the same situation, most would do the same thing.

I would bet you are correct about the trash talking, happens a lot and it was one of those games. But, I was about 20 feet away and just happened to be watching. The Wolfe player was walking upcourt after a foul or turnover or something. Fugate was the one walking backwards in front of the kid and doing the talking prior to the shove. But like I say, I have no clue as to what preceeded that part. But Fugate was the one in the other kids face when I started watching. Ref was right there.

At any rate, I'm sure it's a lesson learned. I'm sure Coach let him know how disasterous one frontline player being kicked out for a game would have been.

From those I have talked to about half said he did throw a punch and half said he didn't. When the officials didn't eject him I would find it hard to believe the KHSAA would override what they saw or thought they saw. I would hate to see that.
