Army Ranger Calls Out The First Lady

Featured Replies

Couldn't disagree more. I've seen tons of celebrities and famous people tweeting it. Why are we making the leap that his tweet was a direct reaction to her?

Which celebrities have been mocked publicly for their tweets for this particular cause? I've seen one famous person be mocked by the talking heads.

Again, where did he connect his tweet to the First Lady's? I couldn't care less what talking heads are saying, they're all blowhards. This is about THIS Army Ranger, and the assumption that his tweet was specifically targeting the First Lady.

I don't believe for a second she was trying to strike fear or respect into the hearts of any organization.

We've seen in this thread that there are people who had no clue of the girls disappearance. What does that tell you? The media is not the source of info these days. She went to the MOST effective medium for raising awareness. Because of that (and the reactions from the right) this has become a widespread story and many more people are aware of it. How is that a bad thing?

By this cat's logic the news should NEVER report of any crime. Why? Just let the police handle it. Why does the public need to know anything? Just let the warriors handle it.

Awareness of any issue is a positive.

It's the job of the news to report crime, not just fluff and weather. Sad state of affairs that people get their news from social media, unless it's coming from actual reporters. Okay, she raised awareness. Now what? How is that going to get the girls returned? Again, I'm not saying she is doing anything wrong, just that he's right about how to get the girls back. Raising awareness is NOT going to return these girls, I wish it would. Perhaps if she just posted a video that looked more adult than how she did it wouldn't bother him or other people so much. The whole sign thing, pouty face and all the hashtags just comes off as silly teenage girl. :lol2:

You've heard talking heads or major media members disparaging Janelle Monae? They couldn't pick her out of a lineup. Paula Abdul? Come on. Who the heck is Cara Delevingne?

I will give you Hillary Clinton as a legit possibility although I missed that criticism.

Who is the face of this hashtag activism?

Raising awareness absolutely has an impact. Human being react and make decisions often based on other human beings feelings.

Her goal was achieved. She raised awareness. That will help the cause.

Again, just look at who people that were offended by this "activism" reacted to? It wasn't Joe or Jane Public. It was Mrs. Obama. She became the face of this particular hashtag.

There are too many tweets on the subject (literally millions) for me to assume that this Ranger's tweet was directly related to Mrs. Obama's. Now, if he mocked her with a pouty face, or called her out for doing this, it's a whole 'nother story.

I haven't seen any of that. But then again, I haven't done any research outside of this thread.

You said his tweet was in response to the First Lady's. You have zero proof of that. What the talking heads say has exactly what to do with this Army Ranger?

Terrorists only love seeing what they did exposed to a higher level, and that is all she really accomplished here. It feeds right to what they want.

Serious question....How does raising awareness help the cause? I'm aware of this group now, and I wasn't before. My awareness has been raised. What help has it done?

It's helped to let more of the world know what they did, which is exactly what they want.

With you in particular? None.

You're assuming others react like you do. Some do. Some do not.

Awareness sometimes gets governments to act. Not always. They can't react to everything. But often it's the voices of those that become aware who cause action.

Awareness helps. It certainly can't hurt.

Are there people that believe the Civil Rights movement that raised awareness didn't have an impact?

I'm amazed they could raise awareness without hashtags.
